The hotel was nice, but the shower drained very slowly and that's kinda gross.

Great little place
Loved this hotel, and would certainly stay there again. Location is basically halfway between the center city (red light district, central train station), and the museum district. Both are easily walkable, though I much preferred renting a bike from the hotel for a flat daily rate. Neighborhood is a lovely residential area, so no drunk or stoned throngs wandering around at all hours. The room that I stayed in, with one double bed, was quite small but was well appointed, clean, and comfy. My smaller and cheaper room looked out over the courtyard, which was nice, but if you want a great view, the canal in front of the hotel is quintessential Amsterdam. The hotel uses real metal keys for the rooms, and instead of having you keep the keys on you as you wander the city, the front desk has you turn them in when you leave and then gives them back when you return. This seemed weird to me at first, but it was actually great, because it meant that the front desk people were always there, 24-7, and it meant that nobody was getting in the hotel without having to interact with the front desk person, which felt reassuring somehow. All of the front desk people were also very helpful with information, such as the fact that you could take a cheap tram to the train station to get a train to the airport (for around 10 euros total).

The Bad & The Good
This hotel offered us the weirdest room configuration we have ever seen. We had booked 1 room and had to take 2 single beds since that was the only available option. We should NOT have gone for that; when we arrived we were not given a room with two beds but instead 2 tiny single rooms with a connection door. Both rooms had a desk each for the TV, but in one room there was a coffee maker and the TV was on the floor. Both rooms had a small closet but there was no place to put the luggage anywhere. One of the rooms had an adjoining bathroom. I have been in small rooms in big cities like New York, London and Paris, but this was the worst configuration ever. When we complained, we were told that there was no other room available for the first night but they would change us for the second, which they did. As compensation they offered us to use the breakfast buffet for free which normally was a 12.50 EUR charge. The location of the hotel is excellent, the whole city area is in walking distance and you will find a lot of shops and restaurants in the area.

Great location, TINY rooms!
This hotel is perfectly situated for a short visit to Amsterdam. The neighborhood is beautiful, close to the trams and centrally located to a lot of the major sights. Unfortunately, the hotel itself could use some work. My husband and I stayed there for 5 nights while attending a tradeshow at the RAI. We booked a double room, which was so small that literally one of us had to stand on the bed in order for the other one to open the bathroom door. The bed was squashed in a corner right up against the wardrobe resulting in me smacking my head into the wardrobe several times while sleeping. The hair dryer was not in the bathroom, but mounted to a random wall in the corner of the bedroom, nowhere near a mirror and so low on the wall that I had to squat down to dry my hair. The elevator was really loud and made a sound like a groaning whale every time it passed our floor, which was especially fun when it woke us up at 1:00 am several nights. My husband and I travel frequently for work and have stayed in a lot of small, European hotels. This one was smaller & more poorly laid out than anything we've stayed in before and made our time in the room far from relaxing. On the plus side, the staff was really nice. We didn't try the 18 euro breakfast buffet, but found a great place around the corner where breakfast & coffee could be had for about 9 euros instead. Sadly, I'll have to say that next time we come to Amsterdam, we will definitely not be staying there.
