Caldera Premium Villas, Santorini

Our hotel room was robbed- laptops, cell phones, wallet, passports. There was no evidence of forced entry, it was on our last night, and we had only left the room for less than an hour- raising a great deal of suspicion that hotel staff was involved. Even if they were not, as the hotel claims there was young boys jumping buildings within the hotel, this indicates a severe lack of security if any non-guest is able to get onto the grounds and into rooms. I would highly recommend going ANYWHERE ELSE if you are going to Santorini, and would NOT feel safe here. The breakfast was also dismal.

DON'T STAY HERE
The pictures of the view they post is not from your room or balcony, it's from their reception area which has a very different view from where you actually stay. I have been to santorini many times and I would never come back to this hotel. The room was adequate in size but only had one ac until and half of the room was warm. For what I paid per night you would think they could at least have adequate cooling. One of two light bulbs in the bathroom was burnt out and you could barley see and of course it was not replaced. The soaking wet bathroom mat was never replaced. The tv has a total of 4 channels. For that price they should at least provide some satellite (nova or whatever all the other hotels I've stayed at in santorini provide). The location of the first room had the bedroom window facing the donkey trail and loud yelling from morning till sunset by tourists and staff tacking the donkey rides. When I complained they moved me to a different room (more economical) yet they never refunded any of my money as I had paid for an upgraded room. When I asked to speak to a manager the lady who was present spoke to the manager in the phone but never allowed me to speak with the manager. The location is a long arduous walk from the main road and to boot there is no place to park (10 minute walk from the parking you must pay for yourself). Overall the worst hotel I've ever stayed at while in santorini and one of the more expensive ones. I will never stay there again

Avoid at all cost
I'm shocked by the high rating for this hotel. It can't be for the views, because there's great views from every spot in the island. This is one of the cheaper options in Oia, so it may be unfair to compare to the more expensive surrounding hotels, but this place doesn't even try, so they deserve a terrible review. The upkeep of the hotel is terrible. The breakfast is terrible. The pool areas were not clean, we were seriously concerned we'd catch a disease if we jumped in. One of the windows in our room had curtain rods, but no curtain. There was no hot water in our shower. We lost power the first night. And you realize very quickly after getting there the receptionist couldn't care less about any of this. Just a miserable place, we couldn't wait to leave.

Beautiful View Needs an Upgrade
Calderas Villas could only be reached by descending 78 treacherous stone and cement stairs. The receptionist was brusque and not very helpful. There were few amenities. The breakfast was cold as was the coffee. The view was beautiful but our room had spiders and ants.

My opinions are explained below. Santorini is an uniquely beautiful place. The views are awesome. This was a 2 star hotel with a 5 star view. The ratings for the hotel are seriously over-rated and the hotel is over-priced. It does not deserve anywhere close to a 4 star rating. They don't bother to even sweep the concrete floors in the rooms, which are furnished in a cobbled Salvation Army style. The air conditioning system is under-capacity for the room, which never cooled down properly. There are much better places on the rim for the same price or less. The check-in is at a different place away from your room. They try to manage a number of units all over the place from one registration office. The local office is only open at limited times, never in the evening. This does not seem to be managed by a professional hotel company. Keep in mind that you are a third of the way down the rim on steep rocky steps on a donkey trail that gets washed in the afternoon, creating a rivulet on donkey dung and urine -- not pleasant.
