Casa Vela Guest House, Cascais
Old world charm , clean , remote
This is a farmhouse/barn conversion according to manager , so there is old world charm. It is quiet ,clean and organized but don't expect too much else . It is far away from city center , hiding among residency area , expect a 15 to 25 min slightly uphill walk , hauling luggage on cobble stone path . Clerks and manager are kind and curteous and did their best to help . There is a very slow moving elevator , and the shower room always flood into living area . There is no bath , no refrigerator . Breakfast is average and acceptable . This is really an old world nostalgia . Old living rooms , stairs , medieval kights statues , old garden , many old oil paintings . Please don't expect anything modern or update . In a way it is refreshing , but I could not wait to run back to Intercontinental Estoril .

More than the name implies.
Although it calls itself a guest house, Casa Vehla is really a boutique hotel that lacks a restaurant. The atmosphere of the hotel is like a very nice home set in beautiful gardens. We especially enjoyed the residential neighborhood location, just a few minutes walk from the busier, more tourist part of Cascais. JP and Marco could not be nicer or more helpful. Our only suggestions for improvements are related to the rooms themselves. The architect/interior designer focused too much on aesthetics and forgot some basic items like sufficient towel hanging space, adequate number of electrical outlets for today's energy-hungry electronics, etc. That said, we really enjoyed our stay and would happily go back again.
