Average family resort
This place was average. The food was good but everything closes by 10pm. They only have two bars and the adult pool bar was closed most of the time I walked pass. The drinks were below average, I had to find one drink all the bartenders could make and stick to it. The hotel itself didn't have many activities going on so you had to book excursions. Some positive things I would like to say was the staff was very friendly, and the shuttle bus into town was helpful. This seems to be more of a family resort, so if you are young and looking for a little more excitement, this is not the place for you.

Lacks entertainment but good food.
So it says its a 5 start resort, but it's not I would say more of a 4 star. We stayed 6 nights Sun-Sat and the activities during the week were scarce. There is an activity board by the pool but it seemed as if the same activities were listed for several days. 2 days we waited around for a certain activity (dance lessons) and they didn't happen. I asked and was told "the activities are dependent on the people" welllll, we're people. So there was definitely more activities, attractions, and vendors on the weekends than during the week. The service wasn't the greatest during the week: we had to either wait a while for our drinks when eating or get up and get them ourselves. Again, on the weekends, the service was better and the staff was more attentive. It's about 30-45 minutes from Cartagena depending on the traffic as there was a lot of construction on the roads during our stay. They offer a free shuttle to the Old City at various times so that's good. They offer excursions at an additional price: Isla de Rosario are a must, the "City Tour" is overpriced and one could easily do that on their own and just ask questions regarding the city to staff/patrons as everyone knows the history. The best part was the food, it was delicious! Shout out to Omar and Javi at the bar who took care of us during our stay! I wish they would have had shows or other things to entertain us while we there but overall the place is nice and basically has a private beach so that was cool too. Hard bed.

Cartagena is definitely a nice a wonderful place. If you wanna enjoy the city occidental hotel is not for you because is located at the outside of the urban area. The food here is not good, I was very disappointed because the menu was poor. the hotel in see didn't not have attraction for the guesses even thought they do have a team that do activities truo the day, they still need assistance in this area. the service and the installation are very nice . but the poor all inclusive, even the bar didn't have more than beers or margaritas

Too Far Away From Cartagena
If you want something outside the city, away from the hustle of Cartagena, then this place is for you...but if want to truly enjoy Cartagena, then this place will not interest you. The hotel and the staff were great, people were friendly, but just too far from the city. They have a free shuttle and the cabs are only $40,000 COP each way..20 min ride into town. I don't want to sound negative about my experience...it wasn't really that bad. However, when you compare it to other ALL INCLUSIVES, these guys need some major work in that area. The food was a "B" grade, entertainment was all in spanish, so we didn't take part...the one bar wasn't very lively..like I said, a great place to relax...if that is your goal.

The staff was very nice, but 2 out of the 4 of us became very ill with food poisoning from the seafood eaten there. The other 2 people got sick once we returned to the U.S. Although the staff was very nice to us and said to call if we needed anything, I could not drink/eat for 3 days while I was there. I do not know if we became ill because of the food at this resort or if it was Colombian food in general, but I would not go back there as a result of this experience.
