Decent but for the price can find better

The Hotel is decent. The room is well equipped and is clean. The breakfast staff is very nice. I also had breakfast there and liked the options that they had. The Portuguese receptionist (Mr. Paulo) was one of the most friendly people that I've ever talked to. What could be improved is the wifi. I was not able to get any reliable internet connection. The 4 days that I stayed there, the internet was just slow. This is hard because I was on a business trip and I needed internet access. Another point that I didn't like, was the receptionist in the morning. The breakfast opened at 7am, and I had a meeting at 8am, so I was a bit in a rush to get breakfast. The breakfast place is not in the same building as the hotel. I arrived at the reception at 6.58am and because they only open the reception at 7am I needed to wait 2 minutes for her to tell me where the breakfast place is. Note: She was already in the reception but refused to talk to me. I don't understand why she couldn't simply tell me, also I didn't appreciate her reply. When I asked for the breakfast place her response was: "Go down the street, and look for number 99". I'm not from here, so I don't know which side does the street goes down. (The street is flat). Also, a lot of people party and they arrived drunk at 2 or 3 am making a lot of noise. One of the nights someone was so drunk that they didn't know their room, so they knocked at every door.

The staff was friendly, and the property was clean. However, the room was only slightly larger than the bed. The shower and bathroom was not private and was shared with other guests. If we had known it was a shared bathroom, we would not have booked. It felt more like a private room in a hostel, than a room in a hotel. A hotel should always have a private bathroom and shower for every room. The room itself looked nothing like the room in the photo. It was tiny and cramped and the bed was uncomfortable. We could feel the wooden slats through the mattress. I would not stay in that room again.

    Avoid this nightmare

The concept of "hospitality" eludes the staff here. The front desk was a nightmare to deal with, beginning with initial check-in (both ladies at the front desk inexplicably refuse to offer a simple greeting to guests upon arrival. Just an annoyed eyebrow raise. I watched this happen 4 times). The policies and procedures are off the cuff. I called three times to confirm that I could ship a package to the hotel prior to my arrival date and was told it would be no problem as long as the guest's name was on the item. When I arrived, I learned that the hotel had refused the package which contained $1000 worth of merchandise for a business trade show, and they have yet to offer even an utterance of an apology. Onto the rooms. Perhaps you'll be lucky enough to have a bathroom in your room, but we weren't. 1 shared shower stall for an entire floor is outrageous. This is a hostel scenario at hotel prices. The second water closet is equally problematic, and although there is soap and a sink for hand washing, the hotel refuses to stock this restroom with paper towels or any way to dry hands. The rooms themselves smell like urinals, I assume because most men are using the in-room sinks as their personal urinal due to the shared toilet situation. The only redeeming quality of this place is the breakfast which is quite nice. The cleaning staff are friendly as well. The front desk and management are abysmal. I would not wish this hotel on my worst enemy.

    worst experience

they gave away my room, then claimed a no show which was false, did NOT refund or even offer an apology, instead were very rude and abusive, yelling F u to another client who was also having a bad experience.

Not the best. Room was tiny and uncomfortable. Window wouldn't close and was light on blankets and sheets.

It does the job for an overnight stay.

Stayed for one night, just passing through. Was an affordable option and for the price it was good. The room had been updated, nothing fancy however. The bathroom is older, but clean. There is no lift, and the wifi is very slow, otherwise no complaints. The staff were helpful and it's an easy walk over the river to the city. Don't expect modern and amazing, it's small and has "old" charm.

    the "guesthouse"

I was exceptionally disappointed. The hotel put me in the guesthouse, 2 blocks away from the hotel. My room, nay, CLOSET, was tiny and FREEZING. My room was next to the entrance so as people came and left, I heard everything. The entrance door always slammed shut and there were people coming in and out all night. I could hear their every footsteps ALL NIGHT LONG. I would have called the front desk and asked for another room, but there was no hotel phone- which I think is technically, illegal. I'm not from Germany so I had no phone, what if I had an emergency? The sheets had holes in them and to top it off, the WiFi didn't work, and I legitimately had work to do. The front desk man literally didn't care when I checked out. I can't recommend this hotel, perhaps I just had a bad room.

    Friendly stuff

If you are looking for some inexpensive (€62 for suite) hotel not too far from the center go for it.

Did not accommodate me according to my reservation

I booked a room with a double bed and private bathroom. However when I arrived I was given a room with two single beds and was told that what I had book was only a request when it clearly stated my reservation was for a double bed. They would not adjust my price even though the room was smaller than I had reserved.
