Exceptional 10.0
Peaceful hotel amid the bustling city streets
We checked into one of their club rooms and was very satisfied with the level of service offered. It began with a warm welcome at the reception desk where we were directed to another private check in counter for club room members. Without us asking, the service staff offered several options to get around the city and also notified us of their free shuttle service to the famous HCM sightseeing locations. Do check with the counter staff (available for normal rooms as well I believe) and book your shuttle bus in advance. Otherwise, it is always very convenient to call a local taxi and it does not cost an arm or leg. There is a connecting mall next to the hotel which makes it quite convenient. The hotel staff was also attentive and prepared peppermint tea for me as she learnt that I was down with cold. The bathrooms are also well equipped with bathing salts where you can relax a tired body after a long flight journey. Another point to mention will be its breakfast buffet spread which comprise several options from Japanese to Western. Do remember to bring along a tray to place all your food stuff to prevent several trips to the buffet counters. A minor point noted was its lifts where I find the type of light bulbs used not suitable. A softer and warmer light should be used to bring out the classiness of the hotel. The lift also did not feel luxurious but my other travelling friends felt that there was nothing wrong with the lights/ lifts. Nevertheless, 5 stars!

Poor 2.0
Stay away from this hotel! Multiple issues from check in to check out. Besides smelling like rotten seafood and being located in a horrible shady part of town far from everything, they are also not safe. 1. When we checked in the woman who helped us gave us a check in sheet with someone else’s information on it because he has the same last name as me even though he was Australian and we are not. The info sheet had ALL his personal information including passport number, date of birth, address etc. We pointed it out to them and their reply was “that’s ok. We had a mix up but we know it’s you”. Excuse me? If they are giving out someones information to us, they will most likely give our information to them. We should have left there and then but decided to give them a second chance. 2. That’s when we decided to grab a cab and head out to a restaurant. They called us a cab that was in front of the hotel (works for them) who charged us TWENTY TIMES the normal price. After we complained they were able to call the guy and make him apologize and return our money. When we told them we needed to check our early because of the issues mentioned above, they told us they couldn’t refund us. We spoke with multiple managers who all took the attitude that we just had to deal with it. I would expect these things from a cheap hotel not a 5 star hotel that customers pay extra for safety. There are tons of other great hotels in Ho Chi Minh including the Rex. Stay away from Nikko!

Great hotel, but amenities could be better!
Beautiful hotel and spa. All wonderful except it is rather far from the "downtown" of district 1, so it requires either taking the free shuttle from hotel (but very limited hours and only way TO, not back) or a taxi. Luckilly it is cheap to take taxis there, though it is always dependent on traffic conditions obviously and they can be awful. I was suprised that this hotel did not offer fresh milk in the room's mini-bar even though there is everything necessary to make tea and coffee. When I asked at the club lounge if I could get a cup of fresh milk for at least one night (upon arrival, jet lagged, and disoriented), I was told it was not allowed and that we needed to order it from room service. I was absolutely shocked. First time ever that I could not be given some fresh milk for tea or coffee in my room, especially as I had arrived late in the afternoon. The other thing that really surprised me is that we were given a plate of fruit only on arrival and no replenishing throughout our stay, even though we had stayed 8 nights. I thought that it was really cheap of them. This seems to be traditional in all other hotels in Vietnam that I stayed at, at least the ones that are not 5 stars In some ways, 3 and 4 star hotel are a lot more generous than 5 star ones. I think I will stay in those next time. Lesser stars hotels also provide often free laundry on a daily basis, something that you have to pay for in Nikko, and it was not cheap.

Out of the way
Thought Id try out this brand! Hotel is modern functional and efficiently managed. Staff however lack friendliness and a human touch. Stayed in a suite with two queen beds - room 1205. Room was ok but carpet near sliding doors between bedroom and lounge looked mouldy. There is a design flaw with the location of the main light switch being near the far bed. The restaurant staff on the second floor were difficult to understand at times especially those working the different food stations and the etiquette with getting food was not clear. There also seems to be more of an effort with food presentation than with the actual food quality. This often meant carrying two or more plates with you back to the table when one plate could've carried all that you needed. Bizarre! The staff seating people were also difficult to understand at times and I got the distinct impression that my casual dress code was not quite acceptable. If they require a better dressed clientele set a dress code and say so! Breakfast on the 2nd floor has issues with food often been cold. One thing that really needs improvement is the coffee. Vietnamese coffee is far superior to the instant rubbish thats been served and thats what should be offered! Change it! The coffee served by the staff was warm - always warm! Hotel is definitely a nice hotel but I wouldn't stay there again. I would prefer either a shangri la or a le meridian or a Hyatt! Location was a bit out of the way too!

Good 6.0
Not bad
First off, the hotel staff were exceptional. Nothing bad to say about them. Now, the room... Cons: 1. I need complete darkness to sleep. The room has a smoke detector on the ceiling right above the bed and the 2 green lights blink really bright all night. I was surprised how bright it was and how often they blinked. 2. The bed was hard and the pillows were way too soft. Stacking them didn't really work. I woke up with sore necks every morning. 3. No matter how cold the room was before I finally retired for the night, I always woke up sweating. The room somehow got warmer during the night. 4. Flashlight under the nightstand decided to flash by itself on the first night, even though it was still attached to the base. These flashlights are not supposed to work if they haven't been removed from the base, so I have no idea why it was flashing. I woke up at 4am and the room was like a discotheque. I had to bang it a few times to get it to stop. 5. Personally not a fan of the toilet spray and seat warmer thingy. I never use the spray functions because it's really unhygienic. Pros: 1. Great list of items in the bathroom. 2. Water pressure is great. 3. Relatively clean. 4. Free daily chocolate box was a nice touch. 5. Fast internet. I was staying on the club floor, so food and drinks were served almost all day.
