Very disappointing
I originally booked a double room as I expected to stay alone. When, several days before my sister decided to say with me I called and changed the booking to a twin room. We arrived and checked into the twin room and after about 30 minutes the landlady knocked on the door and told us the room had been double booked and that we needed to move to a double. We stupidly agreed as we were put on the spot and immedietly regretted it. It had been about 40 years since my sister and I shared a double bed and we sure didn't pay 85 pounds a night for the privilege. We weren't offered any discount or incentive at all. The rooms were small but very clean and comfortable with modern bathrooms. However, the wifi did not work, the TV had no channels at all only radio stations, a light bulb blew, there was no milk or creamer of any kind on the tea/coffee facilities, and the shower was barely more than a drip. Very disappointing and much too expensive. Too late to find anywhere else to stay but really just not good enough service. Asking 2 women in their fifties to share a bed should not have been an option, and if there was no other option... then a huge discount or a free meal?? Did not enjoy our stay at all.

We were made very welcome. Nice clean rooms, very comfortable. Nice breakfast, also had dinner one evening which was very nice, home cooked food. Would definately stay there again.

Did see any of area because we arrived late at night and were moving on the following morning. Service was first class and the accommodation was very clean and tidy.

How hidden away can a village get?
Smart room but lavatory obviously had not been cleaned on arrival - management apologised. Very narrow lanes to get to the village, lovely historic church opposite. Busy dining from holiday park on main road. This was one of the Devon villages completely cleared of people and farm animals at 2 weeks notice for US troops before the D-Day landing in 1944. Food OK

A Rural idyll Almost.
The George Inn is not in Totness, it's about 8 miles away and it's not an easy drive, it's nearer to Dartmouth. The breakfast was good except on the last day when it was skimpy and overcooked. The evening menu is limited, I had new potatoes with my first meal and they tasted as if they had been cooked and reheated. On the second evening of our stay we ordered lamb shank and it was dry and had little taste, probably overcooked. The room we had was comfortable but small and there was not a chair in the room, just a stool for the dressing table. We had booked a larger room. Visitors need to know that the pub closes from 3-00 to 5-00 pm. The staff were helpful but the service was patchy. The George is a lovely local pub and the regulars are friendly. I'm sorry to be negative, this place is nearly there.
