You are missing out if you don't stay here...
I absolutely loved this hotel. We ate at the restaurant on site twice because the food was delicious, healthy and straight from their farm. We also did the farm tour and meal, which I highly recommend. Rooms were lovely, clean and comfortable, but my favorite part was the setting of the hotel. It was such a relaxing place to be after a long, full day of hiking Machu Picchu. The grounds were so green and full of a beautiful plant palette, which made it the perfect spot to chill on one of their hammocks. The staff were super helpful to us also. We ended up needing to stay at their sister hotel (El Balcón) a night earlier than expected and they helped us sort this out, provided us with transportation to and from the hotel (complimentary one way), and helped us book our taxi to the airport at 5 in the a.m. Oh, and the breakfast was made to order and also complimentary - AMAZING.

Machu Picchu Trip
I paid for Garden View but my room faced the train tracks instead. I did not received what I paid for. I did not know about this error until I was at Lima. This hotel is really good if you pay for the Garden View.

small room with creaky floors
The hotel location is very good, 10 min walk away from the main town and on the train station. The views from the hotel balcony of the mountains are really nice. The restaurant at the hotel is very good and we had almost all our meals there. Our room was right above the restaurant and the floors were creaking all the time. We could hear our neighbors in the adjacent room all the time, esp when they would wake up at night to use the bathroom. The shower switches between very cold and very hotel water frequently. On our trip from Cusco airport to the hotel, they arranged a taxi for us and the taxi driver was very good driver and helpful as well. So for our trip from hotel to Cusco, we asked the hotel to book a taxi for us. Our hotel was in San Blanc neighborhood and both the hotel front desk person said he knows exactly where the hotel is and would communicate it to the taxi driver. The whole trip back to Cusco was a nightmare, the taxi driver was driving very fast and tailgating vehicles in front, breaking frequently and trying to pass vehicles. In Cusco it was raining heavily and he dropped us in the middle of San Blanc plaza which was a block from our hotel and we had to find the hotel in the rain while dragging our luggage. He also cursed at a female traffic cop before dropping us. Overall a mixed experience, I would not recommend staying at the hotel or booking taxis through them, but would definitely recommend eating at the restaurant and enjoy the views from there.

Very disappointing
Very disappointing stays due to the following reasons: 1) El Albergue is more like a rustic inn, not a boutique hotel 2) our room was extremely small and did not match the description posted on hotels.com. We complained the discrepancy to the hotel, but no action was taken to address our concern and dissatisfaction 3) we were charged extra 10% as service fee, not the price we booked on hotels.com. Not a good value for the money. 4) the location right on the platform of the train station is horrible, subject guests to annoying vibrations & noises. Also make th hotel difficult to access. One has to drag your lugguge from the station's parking lot to the hotel and the hotel does not offer sny assistance The restaurant is good and it's staff warm and helpful. Highly recommend eat at the restaurant, but stay at other better option in the town.

Enchanting!!
When the cab driver stopped we had no idea where the hotel was at. Then he walked us right up to the train station and pointed at the hotel sign. From the moment we walked through those gates it was pure enchantment. The room was like a private bungalow, with the most amazing views of the mountains. The bathroom and the room was large and the beds were the best! Fluffy white comforters and clean mountain air, in a garden like surrounding. No TV, but with those windows all around and those deck chairs, you would never miss it. I had the lamb for dinner in the restaurant and it was great. They had someone in authentic Peruvian dress playing some kind of Peruvian instrument. The next morning we were equally impressed with the breakfast. Only negative for us was the low water pressure in the shower but that is because of their drought.
