Friendly staff, great pool, no frills.
We booked the room on short notice (for just one night) and were completely satisfied. It's right next to the beach and plenty of shops and restaurants. The rooms are very basic. There are plenty of luxury resorts in the area if you're too delicate for cold water and a few ants in the room. The staff and the owner were great, very nice and welcoming. The pool was insanely beautiful, and the drinks are the pool bar were inexpensive and stronger than the drinks at bars in town, and they were happy to make delicious drinks without alcohol for the non-drinking member of our crew. The beds were comfortable and the air conditioning was adequate.

Noce hotel - Great pool and garden!
Nice laid back hotel, near the beach. Since the Coco Beach itself is nothing to write home about, this hotel compensates fully by its beautiful pool and garden area. Simply beautiful! Don't aim for the cheapest rooms - spend a few $ more and get much nicer rooms. And get a small fridge in the room too... Hotel has a great restaurant and an in-house sushi master who made some of the best sushi I ever had in CR. Fair priced too... Hotel has its own well stocked 24/7 supermarket and allows you to select your favorite wine there and for a 5$ corkage fee enjoy it with your meal in the restaurant. They have a "cook your own catch" for fishermen staying there.... All in all a good deal... Only downside was - in our opinion - that the hotel did not offer breakfast. Not even if you wanted to pay for it....

Would not recommend
Very small rooms, uncomfortable beds, not the most desirable location, dogs from the neighbors barked all night long.

Fun in the sun
I stayed at the Coco Palms on & off for about a week. (My friends were staying at another place, and it was more convenient to stay with them most of the time.) The location is perfect for beach and nightlife access, and it has a lovely pool, a good restaurant, great staff and a 24-7 grocery store attached. However, the rooms are not like staying at the Ritz. They're very clean and well-maintained, but just kinda tight and old furniture, etc. For the price it's totally worth it if you're not looking for luxury.

Security issue and decor needs updating
For the price of the stay, I have stayed in better and nicer hotels for less expense. We experienced a security issue: the door to our room would not lock from the outside consistently. It could be opened by firmly putting pressure on the door handle to open the door. Hotel staff was not available for me to address this issue, although I did document it in the survey we were asked to fill out. I could not get the in-room safe to work. The decor of the hotel overall is "tired". The wifi finally worked on my phone on the last day of our stay. The saving graces for my stay were the unbelievably fresh and cool pool (was a life savor for cooling off during the hot afternoons) and the delicious "typical" Costa Rican breakfast that I enjoyed. I would recommend bringing ear plugs and an eye mask.
