Hotel Americano, New York
A very strange hotel; not for everyone
How shall I put this? Hotel Americano is weird. I think I just must be too old to see any charm whatsoever in a mattress on a floor after so many years of sleeping in an actual bed. And I do tend to enjoy an actual sink rather than a soup bowl with a spigot. At least the hot water worked in the shower. Although there was no hook to hang my towel. And all this for the bargain price of $570! I guess if you are next to the High Line in hip Chelsea, nothing else matters.

One Bad Night!
So it's with a heavy heart I write this, not a good experience at all. I specially had call the The Americana and ask about the bed and bathroom glass, as it looked like to could see right into the bathroom. I was assured you could NOT see into the bathroom. Wrong! The room is small and there was not place you could go where you were not in direct line of sight. I was traveling with my 85 year old cousin, this was not cool at all! In addition, he could not use the bed because it was on the floor and he was unable to get up from it. The photo should a different bed. Again, NOT cool! He tried to sleep on the couch, but the two little pieces of couch would not stay together and kept ending up on the floor. He ended up sleeping in a chair. This was the worse part of our trip, I REALLY failed him. This was my idea, I thought I covered all bases. The little vessel sink was cute, (Even though it had two chips in it) but there was no place to put anything. The drain in the tub, which was also the shower, was broken so it filled up with water when using it. We should be given a full refund, or at the very least, another night in a normal room. They lied to when they called on my behave asking about the glass going in the bathroom. Someone gives us some relief please!

Good location but needs upkeep.
The location is great but, seems the hotel at one point was a exclusive modern hotel. The carpets had stains and the elevators had cracks on the glass. The rooms a bit small and there was wear on the wood around the bed. These are details that matter to me when trying to impress my girl friend with a New York trip.

Very Good8.0
Nice property, but several pros and cons......
Overall this is a very nice property. Good vibe, very courteous and helpful staff, good location especially if you like to be a bit off the beaten path. The public areas (lobby, bar, restaurant, etc.) and the rooms have a really cool, swanky vibe to it. Very modernistic, plain and a bit sterile which is fine for some, maybe not for others. I wouldn't consider this a place for a family trip fine for couples, singles, etc. All that said, there were a few issues which I must admit I did not bring to hotel staff's attention. First off, probably the biggest disappointment was that the roof top bar and pool were "closed for renovations" indefinitely. This should have been communicated ahead of time. Secondly, the closest parking garage is two and a half blocks away, no valet, etc. You're on your own. I know this is common in NYC but it was still inconvenient. Next, there was an issue with the AC in our room. I did communicate that to the front desk but little if nothing was done about it. Finally, while I thought the bed was comfortable, it is practically one the floor so getting in and out could be a challenge for some. The wood platform is aesthetically pleasing but impracticable and takes up too much space. The mattress sits on the platform so getting in and out is a real challenge! Overall, while it was not the worst experience we ever had before in the city, not so sure we would stay there again.

Stay Away! Go to Gallow Green next door instead!!
Stay away from this hotel! The pictures and pricing look nice on line, but what they don’t show is that many things don’t work or are not as they seem. For instance, when we were there last Friday: 1) the rooftop bar, which was part of the reason we booked the hotel was closed and had been closed for weeks. You think they would mention that online. 2) The Pool was Closed. It is also about the size of a large jacuzzi. 3) They turn he air conditioning off when you are not in the room and it takes hours to cool down to a comfortable temperature. 4) there was no hot water for a shower in the morning. 5) The shower doesn’t drain properly and flooded the floor. 6) For a supposedly hip hotel, there are no USB ports for charging phones. However, there are corded push button phones straight from the 1980’s! I am trying to think of something nice to say about the hotel. The best I can come up with is that it is next door to the McKittrick Hotel, which has a great roof top bar called Gallow Green! Go there!! Stay away from the Americano.
