$395 was too pricey
When we drove up, I was thinking "oh no" because of the $395 price. Another couple who we met there had the same reaction. The photo of the lodge is taken from the back which has a lovely view. Our room was very nice, pillows were rock hard tho', thankfully I had my own pillow. We had just left a B&B where the hosts went out of their way to make you feel welcome and comfortable. The owner of Rimu was cordial and helpful, but had the feeling it was more business for her than enjoyment. Felt it was too pricey for the experience, had the same or much better rooms in NZ for much less.

This hotel is outstanding. Great B&B. Owners are charmimg, helpful folks. This was a great place for us to stay on our way North to North Island as a halfway point to break up a long drive. Ice machine was hard to get at after 11pm, but it didn't change the fact, the property is outstanding.

Helen was great, she gave us lots of information on where to eat and what to see. Great breakfast, great view and a nice large fire in the fireplace when we arrived. Very special for a cold rainy day.

West Coast Gem on the Southern Island
We traveled from a day trip in Abel Tasman by car to Rimu Lodge. This was the most treacherous part of our 2 week journey in New Zealand as we hit the worst rainstorm (and subsequently the first snowfall storm) of the season while driving in the dark. Our host was wonderful - checking in on us when we had not arrived by 8:30 PM yet that evening. Although we couldn't see it until morning - this place had quite the view of the mountains in Arthur's Pass. We saw the first snow atop the mountain's as we ate breakfast. Room was spacious and comfortable and so was the bathroom. The host's breakfast in the morning was also quite delicious. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay more nights and visit the glaciers to the south. The best part of this place was it's peace and solitude and also the lovely conversation we had with our hosts.

Great Night
Very nice accommodations. Beautiful location and view. A 10 minute drive to town but not a problem if you have a car. Owner was very friendly and attentive. Nice special touches such as evening turn down service and chocolates on bed on arrival. Breakfast spread was very impressive, including several hot items. Too bad we did not have another night!
