Don't rely on the staff!
The stay, itself, was fine but nothing extraordinary. However, I was extremely disappointed I the quality of service and responsibility from the front desk staff. I requested an early wake-up call for my trip to the airport but I never received it. I saw one staff member write down my request but the early morning staff person had no record of it. I had also booked a cab and there was no record of that request, either. Could have been disasterous if I'd missed my international flight - fortunately I woke on my own and grabbed someone else's cab. Very poor staff communication, apparently.

great location
There was no elevator. Breakfast was fine, but since we had to leave our key with reception each time we left the hotel, we had to wait in reception to pick it up again.

Beautiful little boutique-like hotel
I thought the hotel was very charming. The room was beautifully decorated. The bed was super comfortable and the room/ bathroom were spacious with vaulted ceilings. The only thing I didn't like was the lack of central heating. The room was heated by a wall mounted space heater that was not powerful enough to warm such a big room. Also, be aware that there is no lift so you'll have to lug your luggage up and down several flights of stairs.

Cute & comfortable, great location, thin walls
I stayed overnight in room 4 - a single room with a lovely view of the gardens and castle. The room has a single bed, wardrobe, desk, tv, chair, end table, tea maker, biscuit, water bottle, and private bathroom. The bed was comfortable. There were power outlets near the bed & tv, so I could charge my phone/etc. The room is right along Prince Street, which is a bit busy - be prepared for city noises at night, including the occasional emergency vehicle. The walls are a bit thin - I could hear neighbors coming in/out and chatting at night. If you're a light sleeper, bring earplugs. Shampoo & bath soap (liquid) are provided in the bathroom, as well as a bath towel and hand towel, no face towel provided. There is free breakfast, including both hot & cold items, in the restaurant. The restaurant is also nice for lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner. I made a reservation for lunch and enjoyed the food and view. The staff are also very friendly and willing to help give you ideas of things to see, etc. Michael, who works in the restaurant, was also very friendly and accommodating! The checkin/out process is very quick and easy. This hotel is also located in a nice part of town and just a short walk away from the Royal Mile, the castle, gardens, museums, and other great places. I would stay here again. I did take away a star for the thin walls & traffic noise - it could get loud at night and that can be problematic for some travelers.

Breathtaking view
We absolutely lived our stay here. Through the window we could see Edinburgh Castle. It was breathtaking. Parked for free just a couple of streets away at George's square.
