Lovely staff, room not great
Difficult to write a poor review when the staff were SO lovely, but in honesty this was generally a bit disappointing considering other reviews. Staff were REALLY friendly and accommodating, despite having no knowledge of my booking, Tried to put me in a twin room when I had booked a double. After some discussion they did move me, but I felt this was causing them some issues. The room was just a bit tired, flaky paint, and freezing cold when I arrived, slightly warmer when I left, dirty carpet, tiny TV, definitely no frills. Was offered free breakfast as an apology for the situation, but I had already paid for this in the room rate. Dinner, was really nice, and the pub itself was a sweet traditional Country pub, breakfast was limited (I don't eat cooked breakfast) but no fruit, only plain yoghurt, limited cereal. Again, the NEW manager was really trying hard but, overall it did not live up to the reviews I had gone by when booking.

Caring staff
I booked my stay here for work as it was a short drive for me for business. The room was nice and clean, and very spacious. There was a small bit of paintwork coming off in the bathroom from previous damp, but as it was super clean, it didn't affect the stay. Parking is right next to the rooms too, so its a quick run in the rain! You don't get road noise despite being on a road as it is a quiet country lane. Great for catching up on zzz's. As I had breakfast booked, but had to leave at the time of serving, they kindly went out of their way to make me a bacon sandwich and tea to go, so that I wouldn't leave hungry. I thought that was very kind of them, as most places you get a 'tough luck' approach. It really made me feel cared for. I would recommend staying here if you like a good homely place that makes you feel welcome. They have a great pub dog too!

Lovely stay!
We stayed at the Gate Hangs High because of the local brewery where we had booked a tour. The atmosphere in the GHH was friendly and local. Our room was spacious and nicely decorated. We would definitely recommend eating in the pub....the food was delicious! Both for breakfast (included in room rate) and dinner, the food was lovely, homemade, pub-goodness!! The portion sizes were great and so I felt it was good value for money. There’s not massive amounts to do in the local area. It took us around 25 mins to walk into the centre where the brewery is, but we don’t mind that, as it’s nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of modern life and just relax! We couldn’t have asked for more- extremely friendly, honest and homely atmosphere. Would definitely recommend!

Quaint old accomodation in the middle of nowhere.
Only spent one night at The Gate Hangs High, but was a pleasant one. Warm welcome from owners who showed me around the room. All was clean and tidy, with a small TV, good Wi-fi and a few toiletries. Tea and coffee facilities were also available. Towels were a little small but I’d smell nice and fresh. I had a good night sleep, although it was very hot at the time, there was no fans or aircon so had to sleep with window open. Road started to get quite busy at 6:30 am. Breakfast was really good and all freshly cooked. I would certainly stay again.

Fantastic pub with good rooms.
Very friendly staff, fantastic food at the adjoining pub and a peaceful location within walking distance of Hook Norton (the brewery tour is highly recommended). Only minor complaint is the overly-bright indicator in the emergency lamp fitting, which illuminates the entire room with a green light.
