Great hotel in a great location!
This hotel was beautiful and right in the old city! They hotel staff was extremely accommodating and helpful. There was a city wide power outage on our last night and they did everything possible to make sure we were still comfortable. They did have back up generators as well which helped us with lighting during the outage.

Nice boutique hotel, poor customer service
Hotel Casa Canabal is a nice place. Great room, nice pool and patio area on the rooftop. The only gripe I have is their customer service. Our room didn't have hot water the morning of our check-out. We had hoped to get an early start to our day and sneak in a couple of sightseeing before our flight. Asked the front desk about the problem and it took them 20 minutes and me coming down 3 different times to finally get an answer that the water heater was broken. They told us to wait an hour for them to fix it, but did not offer any apology for the inconvenience. We had to wait it out and it worked about an hour later.

Bait & Switch
My first terrible experience via hotels.com. We had a confirmed room & when we arrived the hotel staff told us the AC was out in the room assigned to us & they had emailed us the night before. This was an obvious lame attempt to excuse their overbooking. My obviously pregnant wife & I were given a map & told to walk across town to their "sister" hotel where a reservation could accommodate. The hotel would not provide Transport or pay for a cab & so we towed all of our heavy luggage across town in the heat of the day. The silver lining of the change is that the new hotel is in a safer area, but the room quality is far less than what I expected (very small, cheap/minimal fixtures & accommodations & smells of mold). Of course, for all of this trouble, we are expected to pay the same rate that we would have paid at Casa Canabal with no apology or offer of recompense by any means from Casa Canabal. When a hotel overbooks & sends you to their lower quality sister hotel & you pay the same rate without the original hotel providing any payment out of pocket, it makes it very hard to believe that it is simply a mistake & not a money-making scheme on their part to take the bookings from their more popular hotel & allocate them to their less popular hotel. My concern is that all of this is being facilitated through a trusted site like hotels.com. There are many excellent hotel options in Cartagena don't let this hotel take those options from you the way they did to us.

Inside Cartagena's Walled City
Very nice stay at this boutique hotel. Fantastic food at the in-house restaurant, and many other options in the Bohemian neighborhoods surrounding the hotel. You are inside of Cartagena's walled city, which is very nice. The rooftop pool and lounge are is very nice to relax and take a dip in the plunge pool. Would stay here again! Only issue was spotty wi-fi in some of the rear rooms, but it worked great near the front of the building and on the roof.
