They made us feel like we were their only guests
I felt like I was the only guest at the Danna! Amazing! I stayed for three nights at the andaman before moving to the Danna. U cannot compare the management of the hotels. Although the andamans beach is nicer with snorkeling off the beach and a coral garden with a spa like feel.... the toilet at the pool was blocked for three days despite me complaining about it. At the andaman on our first day there, our room was not made up by 3pm! The Danna was amazing! Not a single complaint. Hafeez, one of the managers helped us immediately when my husband got ill, organizing his cardiac meds to be delivered to us. He actually tracked me down on the beach and personally delivered it. One of the other managers, shakers, saw that my daughter loved lemons, and bought her a going away treat of a sour sweet. the chef in the kitchen, Zahraa, spoke to my daughter on the phone as I ordered room service and she sent a complimentary ice cream and cake for her. They also decorated the room and gave us cake and sparkling juice for my daughters birthday (husbands bday and anniversary. It is the small things that count... the Danna has the small things and the big things right!

Exceptional 10.0
Lovely hotel situated in beatiful place
Lovely hotel overlooking beatiful bay / lagoon. Attractive and spacious rooms. The more expensive overlooking the sea. Our one had partial view of the small harbour (and carpark)! Very large balcony with day bed. Excellent breakfasts with good choice of food. Dinner in the evening very good but fairly pricey. Staff friendly, helpful and efficient. Only complaints: (1) having left our room before 8am to go to the beach and left the electronic door sign asking for room to be made up we returned the first day at 2pm to find the room had not been cleaned and the next day room not cleaned at 12pm and had to search for someone to do this. This is annoying when returning in order to shower and change; (2) having been asked at check in if we would like a paper and fresh milk each day for making coffee in the room these were not supplied until the second day when we had to made a special request in the afternoon. This is not the fault of the hotel but I would like to make this observation which I am sure happens on a daily basis - some guests regularly went to the beach each day just after 7.45am and left bags and books on loungers. They then left and returned 2 to 2 and a half hours later to use the loungers. Other guests arrived at the beach to find the loungers reserved but unused. Some extremely selfish guests!! probably not very much the hotel management can do to rectify this.

Elegant luxury
We arrived at The Danna to be met by staff, shown to some lounges and were given drinks and a short neck massage while we dealt with the paper work. Afterwards we were given a tour of the facilities and shown to our room. This hotel is pure opulence, its grand foyers, bars and furniture impressed us so much we found a lot of our holiday snaps were of corridors and chandeliers. Our Viceroy room was large with a king 4 poster bed which was incredibly comfortable, the bathroom was tiled in stone from top to bottom with double sinks and a rain shower. The bath was positioned so you could open dividing doors and look out to the Andaman sea. The balcony looked out over the pool to the white sand beach. (At night the horizon would be bright green from the lights of squid boats) We went straight down to the infinity pool to be met by pool staff and shown to a lounger, given towels and bottled water, there we stayed till sunset, ordered excellent cocktails and gazed out to three close islands fringed with palm trees and surrounding hills covered in dense forest from the large tiered pool. The little things like finding a jar of cookies in our room on our return and providing fresh milk for the coffee maker left big impressions. We left feeling pampered and as much as we miss the postcard views and cocktails at sunset, we will also miss the staff and management that smile and greet you as if you were their most special guest, by the end of our stay we actually believed we were.

Very Good 8.0
Great staff, good food, very expensive
Initial impression was poor as the hotel is actually roadside. However, we did receive a complementary neck & shoulder massage on arrival which was great. The room we were given had 2 balconies both facing onto a noisy local road. We asked to change and were moved to a room but it was still road facing and very noisy on the balcony. Over 4 days the hotel grew on us, the rooms are large and comfortable, the pool area is spacious, with nice touches like staff offering to clean sunglasses and attentive poolside service. Food is good but not great, a simple nuisance we had at all meals was the moment we sat to our table we were being asked 'still or sparkling water', there is no option of filtered water and at 26MYR for a bottle of water its CRAZY expensive. There is a great gin selection with some excellent gins such as Glendalough and Gunpowder but the beer selection is awful (5 beers available all big brand, 24MYR for a 330ml glass of Carlsberg when a nearby store sells 330ML cans of beer for 2.90MYR. Although there is a 50% happy hour which is good, all cocktails are 38MYR. Staff are excellent, very well trained and all seemed very nice and pleasant. Overall I'm not sure we would return as I think Langkawi as a destination is far more expensive than other options in the region such as Penang, Phuket or Bali.

Good 6.0
Highs and lows
Our stay at the Danna was a mix of emotions. I’ll start with the pros; it’s a beautiful building with a great looking colonial architecture and design. The rooms are spacious and the beds are comfortable. Most of the staff is very kind, helpful and service minded. The cleaning was good and stuff like a lot of free drinking water, made the stay easier. Great spa! However; the location is pretty isolated, so not very much to do within walking distance (good thing the beach, the pool and the loungers were great). Really not much to enjoy in the nearby marina so you kind of have to stay within the hotel for food. And here’s the biggest con. The food is not great. Some dishes were okay, but a lot of the food felt off baked and pre prepared. Not something you’d expect from a five star hotel. The menus in the restaurants were so extensive that I guess that’s what they have to do to keep the food “fresh”. I think they’ll be better off if they slimmed down their menus a bit and focused on the things the cook is really good at. We stayed here for a week and at the end of our trip we had trouble deciding where and what to eat since we didn’t enjoy it that much. Some of the things in the menus were out right terrible. Saddens me to write this, because a lot of other things were great. But to be able to compete with the other five star hotels in the area, they need to improve this service.
