Cool spot in the quaint town of Te Anau. Good cooking facilities, and shared spaces.

Good value for great location and comfy room
We arrived late, in the rain, and sort of wandered around the communal area where we didn’t see any staff (but there were lots of guests with heads down, glued to their precious WiFi). Eventually someone took pity on us and pointed us to reception, which was closed for the night. Oops! Thankfully there was a number to call to get directions for getting our key. They picked up right away and were very nice/helpful. So pro tip, get there before reception closes OR make sure you have a data plan to call them. We had our own room with a shared kitchen and bathroom. The room was very comfy and clean, we slept really well! We didn’t use the kitchen as we were only there one night. The bathroom is very basic so bring your own everything. It ran out of warm water immediately when I used it, but I don’t know if it was the time of day or something like that. Overall good value.

Budget stay at the lakefront
I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the rooms. There was a bathroom in the room which was nice. The staff were very helpful with booking activities and the backpackers is very close to the shops. The kitchen in the backpackers is spacious and had a lot of cooking utensils

Great little place to relax for a couple of days!
I really liked this hostel on the shore of Lake Te Anau. The beds in my dorm were all single beds instead of bunks which was great, although I did see that there were bunks in other rooms. The dorm was spacious and had heaters. My dorm had a great view onto the lake too. One problem was that the dorm was right next to the lounge so you could hear people talking at night, even with earplugs.?The kitchen was very basic and didn’t have enough basic equipment like bowls, and this was a relative quiet period so I’m not sure what happens when it’s busy! There’s a nice garden and great baclony looking out onto the lake, plus a comfy dining/lounge area. But all in all I enjoyed my stay there and would stay again.
