An enjoyable stay marred by booking mix-up
Friends recommended The Baskerville as the place to stay before attending the Henley Royal Regatta. Only a very short walk from Shiplake station,The Baskerville with its lovely garden and flowers was as welcoming outside as inside with its cosy colour scheme and inviting restaurant. We were shown to our room which was very comfortable. We stayed at The Baskerville for one night and had both dinner and breakfast in the restaurant. The decor was most inviting and all the staff were friendly and helpful. The menu was interesting with some unusual items and there was also a monthly specials menu as well as a vegetarian menu. However, even by Henley week standards, our stay turned out to be incredibly expensive at £500 for bed and breakfast. We had booked though Hotels.com and when we first tried to book in January and failed to receive any confirmation, we booked the only room still available. The hotel had, however, received two bookings for us. We spoke to Sonia at customer services for Hotels.com who agreed that she could find no confirmation for a second room when we booked last January. The hotel was in no way to blame and we do understand their position, although our waitress at breakfast had said that we would not be charged twice. In our opinion the fault lies with Hotels.com. We have completed a review for Hotels.com about their service and we are still waiting for Sonia to phone back as she had said she would.

Great English pub experience
My husband, mother, brother and I stayed at the Baskerville this week and thoroughly enjoyed the comfortable atmosphere and friendly staff. The rooms were larger than we expected and very clean. The food in the restaurant was good. We would recommend this to anyone looking for an English pub experience very close to Henley

Pleasant hotel/pub, but service not so great.
I stayed for work with 2 dogs on Valentines day, hotel pleasant enough and lovely pub, and very dog friendly, but I felt the service was not as great because they were busy with valentines diners, and I came down the pecking order. They asked if i had plans for dinner (my plan was to eat in the pub -reason I had booked there). They said they would squeeze me in but I could only choose from 3 options on the menu....burger, fish and chips or something else I can't remember. Neither would have been my choice. I was ignored at the bar a couple of times, and then one waitress looked over my head to greet some diners that had just arrived. I felt that I was not considered as important as the diners, despite being a hotel resident. Probably wouldn't rush back, based on this experience. The breakfast waitress though was lovely and accommodating.

Comfortable stay
We were made very welcome during our stay. We had arranged a family meal on the Saturday for 9 of us including 3 children under the age of 3, and they very helpfully set up the small private room for us. Service for this was excellent.
