1830s classic
This hotel was built in the 1830s and has retained its tin roofs, wrought iron railings, and old-timey feel, while still being clean by modern standards. The window-mounted air conditioner kept the room cool but was very noisy. We stayed here due to a concert at the Bethel Performing Arts Center some 40+ minutes' drive away, because the other pet-friendly hotels we found closer to that center were all rated as poor. However the cafe and bar close at 9pm even on Saturdays, and the town was pretty much shuttered by then too, so if you're returning late be sure to eat somewhere else first. The room was adequate for a short recreational stay, but not laid out for any sort of business trip (no electrical outlets in convenient places). Water pressure was an issue on a Sunday morning at 9:30 am. Overall, nice clean friendly place for a quick overnight stay.

"Historic" shouldn't mean dirty.
Such a disappointment....It all started waiting for someone to check us in, then I confused them by wanted to pay cash, and it took another 20 minutes to get change. While I am well aware of it being a "historic hotel" that doesn't mean you don't have to take care of it. The carpeting in my room was disgusting. The bedding in the smaller bedroom had stains on both the sheets, pillow cases and bed spread. I went downstairs and asked if the bedding could be changed while we had dinner. When we came back to the room, the only thing that had been changed was the bed spread. Stained sheets and pillowcases were still there. I went and asked for new sheets and pillow cases and changed it myself! It really was disgusting. Luckily I brought my own pillow/blanket which I laid on. We also realized later on that the door in the second bedroom which also led to the hallway was unlocked the whole time- and wouldn't lock! I asked for ice, the poor waitress who tried to help me was sent back and forth from the kitchen to the bar 3 times before someone would get it for her. Again, just because the hotel is old, doesn't mean its ok to be dirty. Extremely disappointed to pay $200 and feel that uncomfortable.

Fine for one night. Bartender is also evening clerk and there was a little mixup with the room. They had me for two rooms. That was fixed at check out. Bar is nice and a wide variety of craft beers to choose from. Cleaning lady was friendly and thorough.

Quaint Getway
Old-fashion saloon-restaurant-hotel. It's in quaint Honesdale. Things are simple, sweet and historic. Both the hotel staff and their "regulars" made my visit warm. The rooms are like bedrooms...with lock-and-key doors. And their salads are on the money!

Quiet comfortable clean hotel w/friendly staff
Got to the hotel late Bc we were coming from Bethel Woods Center for Mysteryland. Front door was locked but we called and manager opened door right away. Very friendly and accommodating even at 2 am. Quiet clean rustic charm comfortable bed and sheets. They let us check out late since we got in so late and we stayed for a delicious lunch and ice cold beer (which they had a vast variety of). Would definitely stay here again.
