Read The Fine Print
I didn't read the fine print so I didn't realize house keeping was minimal or actually non- existing actually. While my apartment was clean, I was not happy about not getting clean bed and bath linen for the time we stayed there . The location was o.k.

Cute, convenient, comfortable
The apartment was comfortable. The kitchenette was complete and very convenient. My only objection was that the only bathroom toiletries they provided was liquid soap, but no washcloths, so we had to go buy bar soap. Other than that, it was a nice little "home away from home" and the location was convenient to everywhere we wanted to go. The front desk staff were all very cheerful and helpful.

Nice place at a reasonable price
We spent one night at the Richmond Place Apartments. The location was a short 10 minute walk to the Royal Mile in the heart of Edinburgh. The hotel was not the easiest to find, with the entrance being in the courtyard of a larger building. The room appeared to be recently remodeled and included a complete kitchen area, even though we did not utilize it. The bathroom was about average for a European hotel. All areas were very clean. It was a very quiet hotel. Overall a very good price for an ensuite hotel in the heart of Edinburgh.

OK, but not what I was expecting
This place was not at all what I expected. It forms part of the accommodation system for the University of Edinburgh, basically part of the student dorm system. The room itself was clean and well appointed, although cramped. Access was a bit maze-like, requiring a lift, two FOB controlled doors and several hallways. The price was also way out of line with the accommodation and I definitely feel like we overpaid for what we received. All in all, I won't go back because of an accumulation of minor issues, there were no major problems and the student staff was friendly and helpful. If you need/want to be in University facilities it is an option, but there are better options nearby.

Ideal Edinburgh base for comfort and plant life
We had a very friendly reception upon arrival; we were offered unit 113 which the gentleman at the desk advised was particularly nice. And indeed it was -- we were thoroughly pleased with our apartment - split-level, really clever and aesthetically pleasing design. A few particular positives: -The water pressure in the shower. Oftentimes I find water pressure inadequate in hotel rooms but this was great. I want to take that shower with me wherever I go for the water pressure alone. -Modern, nicely designed kitchen. We made several respectable, proper meals using the hob and microwave/convection oven. All necessary utensils are provided, and even salt and pepper mills. -Under-counter refrigerator has a freezer compartment. -Comfortable bed and cosy linens, and a real sense of retreat in the bedroom nook (top level). Really lovely and peaceful sleep. (Note: we didn't really have an issue with noise as other reviewers have mentioned.) -Living plant in the apartment! This alone makes me love this place. A friendly lady came by to water it one day. -Location - Overlooking Nicolson Street, so well-connected to the city, also next door to one of our favourite museums, Surgeons' Hall, and immersed in a vibrant University environment. Easy to catch a bus or walk almost anywhere we wanted. We have stayed at several aparthotels in Edinburgh, but this is definitely at the top of our list as a base for our future Edinburgh adventures - hopefully for the Fringe next year.
