- Rooms: Very clean and comfortable. Free socks! - Ryokan has a free tea ceremony from 9:00 - 11:00 am hosted by the owners themselves! Taught us how to Japanese tea drinking etiquette and put our photo in a beautiful frame when they heard we were newlyweds. Even put cute dolls of newlyweds in our room while we were out. They have other activities too, like free sake tasting - Public bath at B1 is amazing, clean and relaxing. Hair ties, towels, make up remover, etc. provided - Excellent customer service. Very accomodating staff, always polite and helpful, even went outside to send us off when we left and bowed as the taxi drove away. They even gave us free masks when they heard we were going to Osaka out of concern regarding the Wuhan virus - Gion, city centre and popular shopping streets are very accessible, often a lesiurely walk away or a short bus/train ride. Neighbourhood has cafes, convenience stores, and shops nearby but is peaceful and quiet
A great experience, with lots of dining options within walking distance. The staff were lovely and the rooms were amazing!
Wonderful staff, excellent location. Good facilities.
Love everyone here.... their staffs are so nice!! The facility is so clean.... they also have free tea ceremony with amazin green tea and cookies.... just love it here
Great location. Central walking to many spots. Quiet area.
The room we stayed in was in the traditional Japanese style but also included Western style beds and a bathroom. It was a good balance of the culture while being comfortable and familiar for people visiting from the US. The basement included a common bath area (separated by gender), which is very traditional for a Ryokan. I found it a little awkward because males in the US do not usually bathe together, but I ended up having the bath to myself and really enjoyed the space and freedom. We also met the owners in the morning over matcha and they were wonderful. The hotel is a short walk from the nearest metro station and there are a number of restaurants within a reasonable walking distance. We would love to stay here again if we return to Kyoto.
Loved everything about the Nishiyama RYOKAN. The staff was so nice, going out of their way to make you feel like family. Their little gentle touches makes you feel like your home away fron home. Would definitely recommend it and we hope to be back!
Kind staff, beautiful room, delicious meals, good and quiet location
It was a wonderful experience. First time in Japan so first time in a Ryokan. The room was very spacious and clean. The staff was very very helpful and we loved the public bath. I highly recommend this property.
We stayed here for three nights and had an incredible experience. The rooms were very nice and clean. All of the staff were immensely kind and helpful throughout our stay. And every morning matcha tea was prepared in the lobby, which was an incredible experience and delicious. I look forward to staying here again next time I am in Kyoto.
