Incredible experience with 20 year old daughter
My 20 year old daughter always wanted to visit Japan. The two of us spent 10 days across the country with a range of fabulous experiences. Staying st Gion Hatsnabe and taking in all the local amenities was one of the highlights. The location can’t be best for a sense of place for visiting old Kyoto. The service and food were among the best of our trip, and the authenticity of the traditional ryokan setting and experience are beyond compare. Well worth the price for a once in a lifetime experience.

A true Japanese stye experience
This is a beautiful Japanese style hotel, with amazing staff and service, which make of you stay an exceptional experience. The facilities are beautiful with a great care for detail, every meal is beautifully served. The neighborhood is nice to walk and find a place to eat, also very well located to visit other interesting places in Kyoto.

Must stay at this ryokan!!
We absolutely loved Gion Hatanaka ryokan!! The location is outstanding..right in the heart of Gion and steps from the Southern Higashiyama area. This area is so beautiful. We stayed on the other side of the river the first two nights and wish we would have only stayed here. This ryokan is in the heart of all of the beautiful sites. The staff was outstanding and so helpful with dinner reservations, directions, etc. We loved the experience of the ryokan. They give you traditional Japanese loungewear to use while at the hotel. In addition, each evening a traditional Japanese robe would be provided to you. Its just a really fun experience to stay in a traditional Japanese inn. We didn't try out the onset but I'm sure it was great. We also didn't have dinner or breakfast in the room as we prefer to dine out, but I'm sure that would have been great as well. This place was fabulous!!

ryokan experience with public bath
Stayed in japanese traditional room for 6 people. Very spacious and comfortable and got a little bit of city view on the second floor. They have public bath (separated, not onsen) downstairs. Although it's public, ryokan itself have not many rooms and guests, so I could use it privately in the morning. was nice to have a soak after walking in cold. Breakfast was ok. Location was good too being close to ninenzaka, yasaka temple and within walkable distance to nishiki market/pontocho alley and subways to main sightseeing. Overall, it is a bit pricey but worthwhile to stay one night to get ryokan experience. I'd recommend.

Once in a Lifetime Experience
A wonderful, traditional ryokan in the heart of historic Kyoto. Traditional, yes, but with all the modern conveniences. And warm, enveloping service. Ate all our dinners on tatami mats in our room. Wonderful food. Once in a lifetime experience.
