Great value, not a fan of the food
Phenomenal value and experience. Significantly exceeded expectations. I don’t think I could do a ryokan for my entire trip but highly recommend for a couple nights. Comes with what seems like a 10 course traditional Japanese meal. I personally, did not enjoy most of the dishes but it was quite the experience

Beautiful property in the heart of a gorgeous area
Kyoto is stunning and staying at a ryokan was a wonderful experience but I wish we had only done one night given the "futon" beds on the floor - even the pillows were incredibly hard on our bodies unfortunately. The staff was lovely and the property is gorgeous. Loved the onsen too! We didn't originally pay for dinner but ended up adding on with other family staying at Gion Hatanaka - keseiki isn't something I'll likely want to try again but both dinner and breakfast were an experience! It's steps away from a park/temple area which we walked through everyday to/from just to enjoy the scenery. If you're staying in Kyoto for more then one night, I'd recommend one night and other nights somewhere a bit more comfortable but that could just be because I'm used to Western comforts/food.

Peaceful Spot in Gion
This place is absolutely gorgeous and so comfortable. Rooms are spacious with all amenities provided. I did not get the meal set but that looked amazing as well!

I was disappointed in Kaiseki meal which we had in the hotel. First, the fish is over cooked. Secondly, I didn’t feel relaxing during the whole meal. It was rushed. The staffs are nice overall.

Top choice for authentic Gion traditional inn
Fantastic location in Gion. Staff were friendly and very helpful with all of our questions. The food adds a great deal to the experience, the special meal and maiko show was a great experience. I give it my highest recommendation.

Disappointed
After staying in several ryokans this was a big disappointment. The building is very tired and needs some upkeep. It felt very dirty. Also there was a very strong smell of sewage on our floor. At check-out we were told they could not get us a cab and had to roll our luggage out to the main street a couple of blocks away in order to hail a cab in the pouring rain. The staff is very nice and tries hard to be helpful. Would not recommend.

Nicest place we've ever stayed!
The most beautiful, serene, gracious place we've ever stayed. Felt in love with it the minute we saw it, with its lovely entry way. Just a stone's throw from huge shrine area. Wish we could remodel our whole house to look like the room we had.
