It was a lovely experience. Most of the staff were friendly (there was one guy who wasn’t friendly at all) and the traditional bath was a nice edition

The Kinoe is an amazing ryokan centrally located near Gion. Staff were awesome and made a number of helpful recommendations on sites to see near by. The in room dining was also excellent- fabulous kaiseki dining for both breakfast and dinner. Our room attendant was fantastic - very friendly, efficient and spoke excellent English. We would absolutely recommend the Kinoe to anyone visiting Kyoto

I can’t speak more highly of this place. The staff were gorgeous and so helpful. We’d come from a beautiful hotel in Kyoto (Daiwa Royal Grande) which was superb but we enjoyed the change of pace. Would highly recommend this place for location, and the lovely staff. Ryokan was charming.

Love it so much. The staff was really nice and helpful, they provided us local information such as where we could wander after dinner. The food and service were also excellent at a reasonable price. The Gion area is fabulous I would definitely live in this area again for my future trip to Kyoto. There is a crab shabushabu restaurant which is also worth trying. BTW bonus credits: I had left my contact lens in the room, but surprisingly they kept it for me at the reception.

This was the best experience! I felt like we were staying with a most hospitable family. We loved everything from the public bath—which I didn’t think I would use, but was my favorite—to the traditional Japanese breakfast. The rooms were very clean and relatively spacious for a family of 4. Sleeping on the floor in the traditional Japanese fashion wasn’t the most comfortable, but the mats, pillows and comforters the Kinoe used made it as pleasant as possible. The location of this ryokan was perfect as we were able to walk to dinners, the Yasaka Shrine and stroll through Gion.
