Excellent service
This is an older hotel in a great location for getting around old town Quito. The hotel appears to be for sale so I am not sure what the management will be in the future. We were treated exceptionally well by all staff who were kind and very helpful. Several staff speak English. We had a meeting in the lobby which lasted longer than expected and the manager set up a table with tea and bread for us at his suggestion! Amazing - he could not have been more responsive to out needs. The room was large and looked onto the plaza which is very quiet at night since Quito seems to almost shut down by 7 pm. The room suffers, as all rooms in older hotels, from the use of low watt light bulbs which make everything dim. We enjoyed our stay and the hotel helped arrange an early taxi to the airport.

Good value; decent location; but poor sleep quality
SERVICE: Good reception: One staff member stays on the premises all night; good advice on groceries, various sights in the historic center, and tips for my onward journey. ROOM: The rooms are charming. No A/C or heat, but the blankets are warm. Interior rooms have no windows, but are more quiet. There's a small safe for a passport and money, but it's not big enough for a laptop. The window to the interior hallway doesn't lock, so that's a bit odd and negates the security provided by the lock on the door. Soap is provided but not shampoo. SLEEP QUALITY: The downside of the 24-hour reception is that someone is there to let people in at all hours, and if a guest comes in at 2 am, they have to ring the doorbell, which is audible throughout the entire building (and I was wearing earplugs). Moreover, the curtains are very thin, so when the lobby lights are turned on when the receptionist goes to let someone in, the light may wake you up as it did me. I was awoken in the middle of the night both nights I was there. The pillows are weirdly uncomfortable - rectangular and hard. My neck was sore in the morning after both nights of my stay. AMENITIES: Good breakfast included from 7:30 to 10:00 (two croissants, juice, coffee or tea, eggs, marmalade, butter, and one time there was cheese and a slice of ham). Free drinking water is provided at a cooler in the lobby.

Sitting in the Centro Historico, the Old City of Quito this good sized hostal is in a very small plaza. Inside it has a pretty Spanish colonial inner courtyard. The room was cosy old fashioned with creaky wooden floorboards and in my case a full length window opened out onto a view of the tiny square. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom functional with a very hot shower. TV and free wifi but no A/C. This was a budget room after all. Great nights sleep. Nice staff and good location, right opposite Marin bus station for a very cheap trip to the Middle of the Earth attraction on the Equator. 5 minutes walk from the main Plaza. Only $4 to Plaza Foch. Loved my stay and the price.

Very run down hotel in a sketchy area. There is a reason why the rates are so cheap. However the people who work there are great. Very friendly and helpful.
