Okay
Front desk was friendly. The room was smelly and no AC but they had a floor fan. Still really hot in the room and muggy. Balcony and chairs really dirty couldn't sit out to enjoy the outdoor. They did have continental breakfast in the basket left on our front door very early in the morning manager knocked on our door and woke us up. Maybe it's better to stay in this location when it's cooler.

The Bear Den rocks!
We took our 7 year old grandson for the total eclipse and met friends there. What a great place. We stayed in the Bear Den. Every convenience you could want in a cabin and the hot tub. Wow! They were so nice, we forgot to buy vinegar and they gave us two kinds from the restaurant. What nice folks! We had a great time.

It was comfortable
It is a old vintage place that is secluded from the town of Highlands, NC. The rooms are reasonable but the food is very expensive we thought.

Nestled in the mountains, a relaxing place to stay
The Skyline Lodge is a great spot--fabulous views of the mountains, quiet, excellent restaurant. We were only there one night, but plan to go back and stay longer. The hotel is set into the mountains in the spirit of Frank Lloyd Wright--low slung with multiple levels and views. It's been around for a while and seems to be in the process of being updated. Our room had AC (which we didn't need-slept with the windows open!) and new tile on the bathroom floor. There is still a bit of work to be done but it was all quite fine, and clean. The general manager had left the front desk so we had to wait a few minutes to check in, but otherwise service was very good. We left early before breakfast was put out and were given wrapped muffins and cans of juice for the road--a nice touch. The hotel is very close to Highlands so getting to town was easy and there are waterfalls and hikes to enjoy within a close radius. This is easily a place where you could come and spend time and relax--and for a quick stay, it was a delightful respite from the road.

Good Sleep
The hotel is in a quiet, wooded area. My hotel room was spacious and quiet--the AC worked well and didn't come off and on disrupting sleep. The little fridge was quiet. The bed was comfortable. I had a great nights sleep!
