The Dukes Head Hotel, King's Lynn
Nice older hotel, but HORRIBLE service!
Many stairs & poorly marked rooms made even finding our room a chore. No AC, so had to open windows that had no screens. Had dinner in the dining room & the service was horrible! Had the ice queen for our personality & didn't have a grasp on the English language. Asked her 3 separate times to split our still came as one bill. Then waited 45 minutes for a brownie & ice cream dessert...finally cancelled the order & asked for our check! The room was nice, with a large bathroom (a king suite), but the poor service made our stay less than we'd hoped. Oh, & it was our anniversary too! Also, had to pay for parking! If I had it to do over, I'd stay somewhere else.

A Gem in Old King's Lynn
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Duke's. It was our second stay. We so enjoyed the ambiance of the hotel and our room was excellent. The locale of the hotel is centred in King's Lynn historic Tuesday Market square. I have known the Duke's Head since childhood (60 years) and it has remained a gem of a hotel.

Historic and well located
Historic hotel in King's Lynn, and with that comes smaller rooms, but excellent location. Some of the upper rooms are tough with much luggage, but again, it was built a couple centuries ago...staircase is priceless, though!

Hotel is nice, customer service not so much...
The statement about free parking is misleading. It should not be listed under included amenities. You get the free parking only if there are no events in the hotel (e.g. weddings or banquets), or you are checking in early in the day or it's a blue moon. Even after I showed my reservation which states that the free parking is included, they were not helpful. Not a good customer service at all! As a result I parked in front of the hotel in the town's parking lot and requested to be reimbursed for the parking fee. Eventually, they did reimburse me.

A trip down memory lane.
Altogether an adequate hotel but there were some annoying moments which marred the stay. First, there is no access to the hotel from the car park. Guests must get their luggage from the car park at the rear of the hotel to the front door. Secondly, the room temperature was set at 24°C and could not be altered. There was no air-conditioning. A small fan was supplied. This is not acceptable. Thirdly, at dinner the waiting staff gave me the impression that they had received little or no training. Triple Sec is not port. Sparkling mineral water should not be served by simply placing a warm bottle of the liquid on the table without a glass containing ice and a slice of lemon. This was done by the person apparently in charge. Fourthly, the meal was adequate but very overpriced. All in all a disappointing stay. Some 46 years ago I used to take a drink in the bar on occasion and, on other occasions, was often summoned there as a local policeman to assist management to eject drunks and other ne'er-do-wells.
