Great staff
The staff was great throughout our stay. They were very helpful at check in and at breakfast. The breakfast was very good.

Reasonable, but don't expect "quaint"
I saw a few negative reviews for this hotel, which I can understand. It is a case of expectations. The hotel is adjoined to a pub, and the pub is not a quaint country venue, so if you expect that you will be disappointed. Check in is at the bar and if the staff are busy serving drinks then you have to wait. The hotel entry is next door via a key entry and a separate key entry into your room. There are tons of stairs and they lead all over the place. No elevators. The rooms are basic, I stayed in the single room for one night (single bed, small room) and the family room for the second night (double bed and single bed, still not a huge room). The single room was quiet but the family room was directly above the pub, which had a disco that evening... Luckily, myself and my kids largely found it hilarious and it stopped by midnight, we might have found it less hilarious had it continued to 1-2am, and others might find it not the slightest bit amusing if they wanted to sleep early. Breakfast was standard English fry up with some cereal, pastries, toast and coffee freely available. If you expect a scrumptious array of cold meats and fruit, you will be disappointed. I recommend the eggs scrambled. Overall, this is a standard "blue collar" pub venue and it comes without frills. As long as you are ready for that, you should not have any serious problem. The staff were friendly and helpful and the pub is within walking distance of the town centre (such that it is).

What you pay is what get. Average hotel and room was off the main building and had all I required for 1 night stay on business.

Dirty and unkempt.
Shocking state of the rooms. Holes in doors, burn marks in the carpet, peeling paint, damp, overflowing bins.

Brilliant stay, shame about the breakfast!
We stayed for 2 nights as we were at a festival nearby the hotel was lovely, our room was buggy friendly and very easily accessible, but the breakfast let it down - the eggs even when asked to be cooked soft came well done and the beans were fizzy and tasted 'off'. The breakfast waitress was very attentive and was very supportive when I asked if I could breastfeed my newborn. What really let it down was hearing one of the waitresses moaning about another member of staff outside our hotel room. But other than that a very pleasant stay.
