the hotel, the attached bar, attached restaurant, attached cafe was great. The food, service etc was very good. The hotel staff were very nice and friendly. This is a 400 year old establishment so it does have a few creeks in the floorboards. The rooms however have updated ensuite bathrooms with hot water, TV, and heating. It was a most enjoyable stay. The internet was a little iffy sometimes, but they did have multiple networks you could sign on to.

Utter neglect
The hotel was filthy: Bird faeces covered most of the exterior surfaces and the whole place had a feel of neglect. The room had two windows, both of which were covered in dust, and only one of which had a net curtain so you could see the alley way below, again encrusted with bird faeces. For some reason all the towels were placed in the room instead of the bathroom There was a Blues festival, so the hotel had live music until 12 midnight, which invariably overran, and it was 1pm by the time it was quiet. No regard for any guests staying at the hotel. In the morning at breakfast the only words spoken were "room number?" I last stayed at this hotel three years ago and nothing has been done to improve it in any way. The owners are apparently Relaxinnz who clearly find it more important to boast about the number of hotels than customer satisfaction. If they themselves renovated at least one room every six months it might show their commitment, but if this is an example of how they run all their properties then I would avoid them all

Loud
We booked this hotel for two nights and ended up having trouble sleeping both of them. The hotel wraps around a courtyard with a restaurant and bar, an area which was loud even in our 2nd floor room. The night we arrived, there was a concert going on in that courtyard, information that might have made us reconsider our selection of the hotel. The second night, there was karaoke or something that involved loud music, which was perhaps worse than the concert. There also seems to be gang of seagulls in the area because they did not stop squawking for one minute all night--this is not the fault of the hotel, but it is certainly something to know when planning a trip to Gloucester. Our other issue with the room was with the temperature. The noise might not have been quite as loud if we had closed the window, but that was simply impossible because it was so hot and stuffy. It was two long, sleepless nights. I understand that A/C may not be possible in such an old building, but even putting a portable fan in the room would have been a huge help. Apart from these problems, the inn itself was kind of a neat atmosphere, with a Tudor-style building (supposedly the oldest inn in England) and a filling English-breakfast buffet.

Lovely historical inn
I spent 2 nights at the New Inn Hotel, and has a nice stay there. It is very close to shops, restaurants, banks, the Gloucester Cathedral. When I checked in, my name was not on the list of reservations, so I was upgraded to a suite. The hotel also has a nice pub and tea room attached.

Old building needs some investment.
The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. The shower was in need of some attention as half the water escaped before the shower head. The bed reading lights did not work. Outside the room the hotel was being repainted, and not before time. The outside was pretty shabby. If they fix these points it would a good hotel. Breakfast was good and overall it was value for money. I would stay there again.
