Good place to stay near the University of Calgary
The hotel is well located if you are planning to visit the university, or the neighborhoods around it. The staff is friendly and the service was good. Our stay was clouded by noise coming from an Aramark facility located next to the hotel. Trucks, with their loud engines, beeping as they back up, worked as an undesirable alarm starting at 6:15 AM (8:00 AM during the weekend). The problem could be easily corrected with better windows. The friendly customer service person at the front desk, who is apparently aware of this problem, suggests always asking for a north facing room to avoid this problem. If you want to sleep a little longer I suggest you follow their suggestion.

Freezing cold service
Stayed here two nights. Rooms were clean but i was freezing the first night despite raising the temp on the thermostat. Next day it turns out they had the heater turnes OFF in my room and room service had to manually turn it on with the hidden switch under the heater. Unacceptable for a hotel. When i complained, the front desk offered no appologies and simply said okay? And stared at me as to what the point of telling them were. Extremely rude and frustrating. Thought about wearing my parka to bed as it was so cold and i had an important interview the next day. Will not stay here again.

Staying at the Hotel Alma-Calgary
This was my second stay at the Alma, and overall it was good. The rooms and beds were nice, with good amenities. However, during both stays, the hotel had false fire alarms. The first time was during breakfast, this time it was in the late afternoon AND at 11pm at night when most people were already sleeping because of an early morning competition the next day. Also, the breakfast has changed. It use to be a hot breakfast, with full spread. But now it's a typical continental breakfast with just assorted breads & danishes, assorted fruit & yogurt, juices, coffee and tea. Was a bit disappointed in that. Most times, they wouldn't even be set up to start breakfast at the designated start time, especially on the weekends which was frustrating because it would make me rush to finish my breakfast before I could leave for the day. Finally, the keys are very small & odd shaped so easy to misplace.

Fire alarms
This is a hotel on the campus and caterers to college students as a dorm and hotel. Nosy drunken students. Fire alarm pulled at 3:30 a.m. resulting in a walk down 6 flights of stairs and then walk back up as staff having problems getting the elevators working again.
