Thor Guesthouse, Reykjavik
Pretty loud and bad for those with lousy bladders
We booked this accommodation at the last minute. It gave us what we needed most: a place in a decent location where we could sleep for the night. Beyond that, there wasn't much to recommend it. The bathroom is shared by too many people, particularly in the mornings, and the bedrooms are too close to the common rooms and too poorly insulated to allow for much restful sleep. Even the bedroom doors opening and shutting created loud banging noises in the room. It's fine in a pinch, but we opted to only stay one night because it was definitely not our thing.

Great location, small rooms, sulfur water :(
Loved staying in Reykjavík, location is great, pretty much on the street leading up to Hallgrímskirkja, however the room was very small and the tap water (even in the lobby upstairs and the showers) smelled incredibly of sulfur. Other places in Reykjavík that I went to didn’t have this same problem with water just Thor, not sure why.

Rooms were fine. Shared living / kitchen area was great. Bathrooms were a bit strange but manageable

A good place to stay, with exceptions
Great location to shops, bars, restaurants and transportation. Property is in an older building and has a very small elevator that stops on the intermediate levels of the staircase. Because of this, you will have to carry your suitcase up at least two flights of stairs. The property is a bit worn down but clean. The water source must come from a hot spring because there is a prevailing odor of sulfur/rotten eggs. You can taste the sulfur and the water leaves your skin tingling after washing/showering in it. For some reason, the side table lights were unplugged in our room and we had to move the bed to plug them back in. Light fixture on the ceiling but no light switch could be found to turn it on. No management onsite but good communication via email on check-in procedures. In-room information on contacting management, check-out procedures and WiFi. A good kitchen and dining room with paper towels on each table. Overall, a decent place to stay because of it's location. My rating would have been higher if it wasn't for the sulfur odor from the water. If you can overlook this, I would recommend this guesthouse, if not, then I recommend looking elsewhere.
