The location and amenities you receive are well worth the value for this hotel. It's located centrally to everything in Oxford. The only issue I encountered was that the room and water were absolutely freezing. I had colleagues staying in other rooms at the hotel and we all had the same experience. Rooms lost heat faster than the radiator could keep up and the showers didn't get hot until you complained to the front desk.

Don't let this location deter you from this oasis
This is a lovely hotel that suffers from its location near a huge road reconstruction effort that is creating traffic snarls, and proximity of service industry businesses. in spite of all that, the room we had was very quiet, clean and up to date. Complementary fruit and cookies and water was very nice and appreciated. Being on a bus line and a 4-block walk from the city center is a real plus. The only complaint we have is that the breakfast they offered from 7 to 9 wasn't really set up at 7 and offered less attractive items , similar to that found in less espensive motels. Since we were rushing to catch a 7:45 tour pick up, we were pretty rushed to order anything of substance for breakfast.

Close to train, clean and bed is comfortable
There is significant construction in Oxford and directly in front of this hotel. If I had been on vacation I would have minded, but for business it is fine since we wake up and leave early. It is very comfortable and close to the train. It could use some updating in the bathrooms and a few more amenities, but for a quick business stay where you need the train station it is ideal.

Nicely Furnished, Central Location
The Royal Oxford has become my favorite accommodation in Oxford. It's a short walk from both the rail station and the central bus station (Gloucester Green). There are lots of restaurants in the immediate vicinity, and central Oxford is just a short walk away. Although it rarely gets hot in Oxford, the availability of A/C is a welcome feature. My room had a shower in a tub, a welcome relief from the phone booth- or coffin-sized showers one often finds in European hotels. There's no elevator, but the front desk staff are happy to carry your luggage if you need help.

Perfect Budget Hotel
This was surprisingly a great hotel. Room was small, but bed and pillows were comfortable and bathroom clean. So glad for the AC too. Room service kept it stocked with biscuits, teas/coffee and fruit. Breakfast was really nice (had the darn-est time getting the waitress to understand I wanted whole-wheat not white toast and have up on that in the end after three days with no success), but full breakfast plus fruit, yogurt, and pastries included with me booking totally worth it. Hotel was walkable to city center, which kept the place quiet in the evening, but convenient to restaurants, the university, etc. Finally the staff was really great. No ice machine in the hotel, but when I asked the front desk if they had some because I needed to ice a sore knee, she filled a bag with a cup up for me and then the next night asked me if I needed more before I even asked her! Very much recommend.
