Basic big hostel good area
Simple basic hostel. Charge for towel, shampoo etc. About 7£ to do laundry. Busy with a good bar. Great area. Beds were small with no place to plug in phone. Bathroom had only 2 toilets for 30 people and the floors were always wet from the showers.

Rare "OK" experience among the splendid reviews
I was really tempted to try this hostel after reading the wonderful reviews. However, I was slightly disappointed (partly because of the expectations I guess). I wasn't greeted with a very warm welcome when I first stepped into the hostel. But I was able to deposit my luggage and take a hot shower after my long flight so that was nice. That said, most people I met in the hostel (mainly in the bar) were very friendly (although one dude acted a bit sketchy. He was probably stoned). One thing I note is that unlike what was in the photos, some of the beds do not have curtains (four out of the six in our room). I don't know if I need to specifically ask for it or if there's a fine print somewhere but beware when you book. The consequence of that was that I was woken up when someone came back very late and not be able to fall back to sleep until 4ish due to snorings, and subsequently missed my train to Cambridge in the morning. I can't really blame the hostel for any of that but if you are a light sleeper as I am and think that you might be able to get better sleep in here than any other hostels, think twice. Overall, I would say it was OK despite all that I've gone through. The location was not central but convenient enough, and I met some interesting people. But again, if you are looking for a really good sleep and willing to spend a little more, better find a hotel. PS: If you have a large check-in luggage, it will not fit into the storage under the bed.

My first hostel stay and I was more than pleased!! Nice clean hot showers, privacy black out curtains around the beds nice size lockers. Overall would go back to this place. Side note The room was very hot so it may be uncomfortable in the summer. Great staff always willing to help.

3 night stay in a 4 bed room female only.
I stayed at the Palmers for 3 nights as I was attending a University conference. It was pretty good in comparison to other hostel. It had free coffee/tea and wifi was great I stayed on the 2nd floor and never had an issue and it was always well heated. You have to bare in mind when in a hostel you won't be getting the best night sleep and all the amenities will be shared. The bathrooms and showers were fairly clean but once again basic. Overall I think it was a solid stay and would recommend it for a short cheap stay. If your someone that values undisturbed sleep and nice amenities this is probably not your place but you do get a solid experience for what you pay for.

The hostel was in an old building that was very charming. All the staff is excellent. They do have the ability to choose all same sex dorm rooms, which is a great option. My only complaints would be better temperature control (my basement room was very hot in the dead of winter) and more bathrooms. There was only one in the bathroom and it got crowded quickly. The neighborhood is great. It’s minutes from an underground station and there are shops the street over. I would definitely recommend it.
