Mirador del Lago Hotel, El Calafate
Overall a good spot
It's a good hotel. We stayed there two nights. The first night we were in a suite which was great but in the front and it was too noisy. There second night we were in the back on a low floor and it was comfortable and clean but a little depressing, but at least quiet. The staff was very nice. The restaurant is hit or miss. First night it was great. Second it was Flavorless and service was slow.

Lost our reservation, poor resolution
Mirador del Lago did not have our reservation. We booked the room 9 months in advance and received no prior notice that there was a problem with the reservation. We only had one night and ended up arguing for some time to try to get a room. They wanted to put us at a property way outside of town where there would be no access to the town, restaurants and services which was unacceptable. We finally stayed across the street at a small and inferior property. We did not receive a refund of the difference. In addition, we had scheduled a pickup the next morning at this hotel, and had to have staff at both this hotel and the new hotel keep trying to contact our pickup service to make sure we made that connection. What a disaster. The management was unapologetic, and we would never stay at a Mirador property again.

Wonderful hotel in an amazing town
This is a wonderful hotel in a part of the world that is unspoiled and beautiful. You only need two or three days to see the glacier and the surrounding area and the Mirador del Lago is a great place to stay while doing so. I stayed for seven days and had an absolutely relaxed time in El Calafate. I reserved a Partial View room and the view was of a bush outside the window and nothing more. Carlos changed my room to a suite so I had a view of the lake. It was a great room to spend a week in El Calafate in. The restaurant’s food was very good though the menu never changed. This is due to the fact that most people are only there for two or three days. The breakfast was adequate and pretty much standard for Argentina; scrambled eggs, meat, lots of pastries, juices, yogurt, cereal and fruit. The tomatoes and kiwi fruit were exceptionally good. Pura Vida restaurant is just down the road and serves large portions of good comfort food. Just down from the hotel is a small bakery with excellent sweet pastries and breads. There is a market within a five minute walk with plenty of provisions, wine and beer if you want. The center of town is a seven minute walk with shops and restaurants nearby. I strongly recommend this hotel and town for anyone wanting to visit the glaciers and environs of El Calafate and Patagonia.
