Convenient hotel. Very small, but nice rooms.
Yes, most rooms do not have bathrooms - they are shared and down the hall, but I was fine with that - think about bringing flip-flops for the walk to the bathroom and taking a shower. They had three private shower/bathrooms on my floor, and I was always able to get one when I wanted one. Bathrooms did not seem to be cleaned daily - maybe every other day? A nice surprise was the roof top terrace, very pleasant (also a kitchen up there and laundry). The room was very small, but comfortable and nicely furnished. There was no daily room cleaning for my 3 night stay (it seems they only clean once you check-out/before next person checks-in -- that may be different if you stayed longer). You can hear everything in the hallway through the door (anything anyone says in the hallway you can hear clearly in the room) -- I noticed that one neighbor had the TV on (I could hear it in the hallway), but I could not hear it in my room (so that was good), but the other neighboring room I could hear muffled conversation through the wall (not so good). Area was conveniently in downtown and pretty easy to walk around -- also in the free ride tram zone if you want to travel around downtown/CBD (tram (about 2 blocks away) provides an easy and free connection to airport shuttle too). They will store you luggage for free if you arrive before check-in.

You get what you pay for
Just ok. It is fitting for the price but lacks in most creature comforts ... no daily maid service (e.g. towels), bathrooms are down the hall and not always available, bathrooms are generally clean but always feel used, no alarm clock, and single pane windows so a lot of street noise (from Spring Street). Also, the walls are thin and you hear everything in the hallways and in adjacent rooms. I stayed three nights and woke up at least once every night to someone make a racket. There is no night clerk ... not sure how much of deal that is. I didn't feel worried about the safety of my possessions in my room but the potential for theft does seem enhanced by the absence of any monitoring over night. I probably wouldn't stay there again - one gets a lot more for another $20-30/night in Melbourne and I think it is worth it.

Cheap but awful hotel in convenient area.
Miles from the room to toilet and shower. Lots of stairs and no lift. Kitchen outdated, fridge full of old food, three floors up. Roof terrace really for smokers- overlooked by multi storey car park. Huge hole in sun canopy. Noisy street below. Opposite hotel restaurant works all night and taxi drivers chat loudly below. Rooms not soundproof- noisy Couple next door
