Great hotel, great food
The hotel was great. it had pretty much the only restaurant open in March, and the food was great. The back rooms are better than the ones in the main house.

Good location for business & pleasure
This is one of the few hotels in Pauillac and is located by Pauillac's harbour and landing stage on the Gironde. It also benefits from being located near to the town's restaurants and extensive free parking. Perhaps surprisingly, the town and shops feel a little run-down. We can recommend the Vents d'Ange restaurant, which is located 50m to the west of the hotel

Avoid top floor
One we resolved the big problems (below) the hotel was good. But - 1. SatNav is very hard to get to front door. 2. Discounted Parking is 5 min walk away. 3. Avoid rooms on the top floor - the roof is black slate and heats up like a sauna. We arrived late, complained as the room was ridiculously hot; we were stuck with the room of for the first night (we would have checked out but couldn't find anywhere else free) but at least they helpfully put us in an annex room (2 minute walk away) which was excellent.Really nice staff, just bad at emailing replies and the terrible top rooms.

Interesting location
Hotel has an impressive position overlooking the river, but outlook is a bit 'run-down'. An improvement plan on the river banks looks impressive, but will take a couple of years to complete. Hotel is a mix of old and new, 2* and 3*. We stayed in an older 2* compact room. In September we needed the supplied fan on at night as temperatures were still high, although there was only 1 socket in the whole room! Restaurant was good - food tasty and service improved as more staff came on duty.
