Such friendly hospitality in the heart of Chinatown!

Not your romantic getaway
The price was about the only thing going for it. I'm a former New Yorker so I don't mind some busy streets and grit but the hotel did not offer much and it was far from a quaint neighborhood. Not recommended for a couple's weekend getaway.

Wonderful find in China Town
This was a great place, its knee deep in China town and was just wonderful. We had amazing food and met wonderful people. The staff was helpful and just lovely. The room was quaint and small as you can expect from new york but the bathroom was beyond expectation with a full bath and the supplied toiletries were above and beyond. We will stay here again.

A well priced basic room with a big problem
A well priced, bare bones hotel close to public transit. One big problem: I was checked into a room that doesn't lock (the lock under the handle does not turn) and only has a working latch (like a door chain). When I asked to change rooms, my concerns were brushed off and I was told that they recently changed their card lock system so most of the locks won't work - that's why there is a latch (effectively just a door chain). This is a completely unacceptable security problem for any hotel, especially for a downtown NYC location. I got luck and eventually was moved to an unoccupied room with a working lock. But I might have easily ended up having to look for another hotel for a same day stay and then having to dispute the charges with the credit card company - a big risk of a completely unacceptable and very expensive scenario. The rest of the stay was uneventful. But if I had known I would be in this situation, I would have booked at the Pod or almost anywhere else. Quirks: tiny though clean and functional rooms. Extremely slow shower drain (had to turn the shower off every 30 seconds for a minute or so). 1 roll of toilet paper and no bar soap in the bathroom (washed hands with shower gel). The closet area had no clip hangers for skirts (only ~4 hangers). No in-room coffee, but free nespresso and candy at the front desk. Overall: A very nice basic room ... that might not lock. Until they fix the problem I cannot recommend.

Worst stay ever
This hotel has fake reviews. I booked over 100 nights via hotels.com and this is the most terrible hotel so far. Great location aka close to the subway bridge (not station) which runs all day along that you cannot sleep well at night. You cannot control, shut down or adjust the AC in your room. What you can do is to call the front desk and they will adjust temperature for all the rooms. LOL. The AC is so loud at night and blows wind directly to the bed. We called the front desk and they said there’s nothing they can do. I had a strong headache after the stay, and had to switch to another hotel a few blocks away. The service is bad too. I paid $204 for a two twin beds room, but the lady staff gave us a one queen bed room without asking us if it’s acceptable or not. We don’t want to argue and let it go. My suggestion is not try to open the window because you can smell the mold from the wall. We switched to Hampton Inn a few blocks away. Quiet at night, free breakfast, convenient location for cheaper rate $179 per night, and most important, I can adjust the AC at Hampton Inn.
