Would only recommend for late nigh jazz fans
This is a fun place, with a lot of character, but not ideal if you want a good night's sleep. Out travel plans meant we had to be up early, so we asked for a quite room - but it's a hotel over a jazz bar so none of the rooms are quite. If our plans had been different and we could have just paid to see the band and stayed up till 1am listening to jazz, and that would have been fine. But instead we just listened trough the floor for free, and got very little sleep before our flight the next morning. If you like jazz late into the night, this place is fine, but we should have chosen somewhere different.

The Rex was a quick walk to a ton of fun stuff downtown Toronto. It had everything we needed for our quick stay. We loved it!

If you like JAZZ.....
the hotel is on top of a jazz club so if you like jazz you can stay up til whenever and then fall upstairs to your room. The owner and service folks were GREAT. The bar and food was good. I would definitely go back there the next time I am in Toronto. Location perfect for water and theatre and restaurants.

Exicted to go back!
Absolutely love this place!! There was a little bump in the road, though. Once we got to our room, we noticed glass on the floor- the shower door had shattered. No one really knows what happened in the time between the room being cleaned and us arriving, but the manager handled it so well!! Since he was totally booked up and had no extra space, he sent us to a hotel a couple of blocks down and paid the extra cost, along with giving us cab fare. He then invited us to come back to the restaurant part of his hotel for a night on him. He really went the extra mile and was so kind. His staff is absolutely amazing and so friendly! The food/drinks, music, and overall atmosphere was great. Everything was clean. My fiance and I can't wait until our next trip so we can actually sleep there, haha! From our peak into the room and bathroom, it definitely looked cozy. Another bonus, in the hallway there, we couldn't hear the band downstairs playing. One thing people should know before booking: parking is not free. You will have to park in a lot down the block, but the area feels very safe!

Great value and friendly staff but bring ear plugs
I really enjoyed the experience. The staff was super friendly and attentive. The rooms are small and the shower and bathrooms are communal but for the price of a centrally located hotel, you can't beat it but you should be prepared for the drawbacks. You are situated over the top of a jazz club and music goes til late so buy ear plugs. I only used them the first night and then got used to the noise. The location is what really sold me on this place. You are smack dab in the heart of downtown. I walked everywhere. No taxis for me but then again I love to walk. There are so many restaurants to choose from. You are a 2-3 min walk from the major entertainment hub surrounding David Pecaut Square (Prince of Wales Theatre, Royal Alexandra Theatre, TIFF Bell Lightbox and Roy Thompson Hall). You are close to the Harbourfront Center and the CN Tower. plus you are situated above a jazz club with great food and music if it's a snowy or rainy day and you don't want to go far. I look forward to going back to Toronto and staying at the Rex again.
