Room much smaller than pictures led us to believe. The basement room lacked for air and a bit tight for three. Even so, proprietors pleasant and room clean.

Exceeded expectations
Extremely helpful and outgoing staff. Nicely renovated small hotel with excellent location and immaculately clean rooms. The welcome gift of wine, fruit and chocolate was a nice touch

Excellent accommodations. Comfortable bed. Clean room and bathroom. AC during the Amsterdam heat wave was a blessing!

This hotel was clean and in a great location. The canal view was nice. The staff were friendly. The room was small and simple, but not unexpected for Europe. It also had very steep stairs, but I was aware of this before booking.

Cheap, clean option in the center of it all
The NL is typical of many hotels in the area of Leidseplein. Very close to the center, to museums, Symphony Hall, great restaurants and even a jazz club. I stayed in one of the basement rooms, which was VERY small, but comfortable, with a window looking out to a small patio that was only accessible to guests in another room. Unfortunately, they also used it as their smoking patio, so had to have the window closed most of the time. On the plus side, it was VERY quiet and I had no trouble sleeping, something that can be a problem in this part of town. Staff was very friendly and professional. There was no breakfast offered, though there are several cafes in the area.

NL Hotel Review
The hotel was located close to many great features the city has to offer - from museums, to shopping, and great restaurants. We also had excellent service at the location. The only 2 issues we had with our stay was the size of the rooms and the stairs to access the rooms. The spaces are very small: I couldn't even fully open my bathroom door without it hitting the foot of the bed. If you have more than one person in the room it makes for tight quarters....something the pictures don't convey. Also there are steep steps to get to the rooms and no elevators: while this may be known by locals or repeat visitors to Amsterdam, the stairs are something to contend with - particularly if you have heavy luggage or travelers with impairments. Other than that, I would definitely recommend this hotel for value and location.

Good location, average hotel
Despite entering all details online prior to arrival for a quick check in, the check in process was long. But staff were friendly enough. The room we stayed in was on the same floor as reception, which made it quiet a noisy room when other guests were coming and going. The room was small but adequate. They provide a fridge but it is high in the wardrobe and not switched on. So, seemed a bit pointless to have. They only provide creamer not milk, which is not nice in tea. The complimentary water was nice. There was not a high attention to cleanliness, but it was clean enough. The sink leaked and when you are in the shower, due to there being no door, water went everywhere. No face cloths provided and not enough space to put things int he bathroom, i.e. toiletries. Overall it was OK and a descent location.

The staff were nice and friendly but the room we got was small . The door of the bathroom couldn’t open fully as it touched off the bed mid open . Other than the size the room was nice we had a fridge and a kettle to make tea or coffee in the morning . Would stay again but maybe request a bigger room .

Fair 4.0
Poor to fair.
Check in was good, a nice girl did everything efficiently and was helpful. The guy checking out was rude and unhelpful (he wore a baseball cap) The room was a good size and was clean. However the bathroom, my wife entered to find hair in the bathtub and in corners of the room - but OMG the toilet brush nothing I can say makes this remotely excusable. Never have seen anything like it.
