This hotel was clean and in a great location. The canal view was nice. The staff were friendly. The room was small and simple, but not unexpected for Europe. It also had very steep stairs, but I was aware of this before booking.

Very Good 8.0
Cheap, clean option in the center of it all
The NL is typical of many hotels in the area of Leidseplein. Very close to the center, to museums, Symphony Hall, great restaurants and even a jazz club. I stayed in one of the basement rooms, which was VERY small, but comfortable, with a window looking out to a small patio that was only accessible to guests in another room. Unfortunately, they also used it as their smoking patio, so had to have the window closed most of the time. On the plus side, it was VERY quiet and I had no trouble sleeping, something that can be a problem in this part of town. Staff was very friendly and professional. There was no breakfast offered, though there are several cafes in the area.

NL Hotel Review
The hotel was located close to many great features the city has to offer - from museums, to shopping, and great restaurants. We also had excellent service at the location. The only 2 issues we had with our stay was the size of the rooms and the stairs to access the rooms. The spaces are very small: I couldn't even fully open my bathroom door without it hitting the foot of the bed. If you have more than one person in the room it makes for tight quarters....something the pictures don't convey. Also there are steep steps to get to the rooms and no elevators: while this may be known by locals or repeat visitors to Amsterdam, the stairs are something to contend with - particularly if you have heavy luggage or travelers with impairments. Other than that, I would definitely recommend this hotel for value and location.

Fair 4.0
Cramped
Really tiny room (number 1) and everything would be fine besides the size of the bathroom. You bang your forehead on the sink when you sit down on the toilet, because of 10 inches of space between one and the other! No hooks to hang the towels. One gel to wash it all on top. However, they do give kit kats and nice chocolate cookies. Oh and no air con!

Exceptional 10.0
perfect night sleep and in central Amsterdam
Great location, able to walk into the city centre to all the main attractions and to lovely restaurants. Rooms are cosy, but perfect if you are just wanting somewhere in central Amsterdam and to rest your head to get a great nights sleep. Very comfy beds and soft sheets. The staff were very helpful and let us keep our bags safely with them before and after checkout. Slight issue with keeping the air con on, it kept turning it self off which made the room a little uncomfortable and hot at times, we visited in mid July though. Would happily recommend.
