Hearton Hotel Shinsaibashi, Osaka
Pro: Location is unbeatable, literally across the street from all the shopping and attractions from Shinsaibashi/Dotonbori. Rooms are small but clean and some what new. Service is excellent as one expects from Mid range Japanese Hotel. Con: During August (the most humid and hot period) The air Conditioning does not keep the rooms cool. Velocity is set and does not . The Air con vent hits only a portion of the opposite wall. If two beds are in the room, the bed directly under the opposite wall will get somewhat cool air, the other bed will remain warm. To further exasperate the warm bed is the only cover available is a thick comforter. No individual single cotton sheet are available for a warm bed. Consequently a fan needs to be place on the opposite wall to circulate the air conditioned air to the rest of the room.

Hotel in need of an upgrade, but great location
The hotel is half a block from a very nice shopping area, but everything else about it was just okay or subpar. We were put in the "annex" building. Walls were very thin and you could hear the TV and people talking/coughing next door. The double room was very compact and I had to move my suitcase from table to floor if we wanted to eat or watch TV. Doors were low. I'm 5'10 and would have had difficulty if I was 6'0. Window was frosted and did not open. The whole room felt very claustrophobic. And the air only had 3 settings: hi, medium, low. Overall, we were disappointed in the hotel. It was more expensive then the other hotels we stayed out in Tokyo and Kyoto, but yet it was the smallest with fewer amenities included. Bottom line, if you're just staying for a night or two, it is okay. Otherwise, just get a day subway pass (around only $5 or 600 yen I think). The sights are spread out around the city anyway.

Small, but clean.
I had looked at reviews of hotels in Japan so I already knew that they weren't as spacious as a USA hotel. But I was still a bit disappointed in the extremely compact size of our room. The bed was comfortable, but small. However two of the pillows were very hard. As if they were filled with rice, or some kind of grain. Although there were 2 softer pillows which weren't too bad. It was a decently clean hotel with semi-English speaking employees. The staff was very friendly and were helpful with our questions about the area.
