My “go to” hotel when I stay in Kyoto
This is my go to place when i stay in Kyoto. It’s a short bus ride from Kyoto Station or a 20-25 minute walk. I love the location because I’m close to Gion, all kinds of shopping, food, Nishiki Market area and much more. When I stayed on an upper floor my room looked right out at Kiyomizu which was gorgeous. The staff was very kind and helpful and most speak English, there’s a coffee stop downstairs, and the bus stop is right in front of the hotel with 4 lines going to Kyoto Station.

Reeks of Urine not Kyoto worthy
The rooms are small and old. The first room cleanliness was ok; it was old run down. The 2nd room was horrible even for American standard, it was dirty and stunk of urine. When we got into the 2nd room it reeks of urine and there was no bath towels. The room was even more dirtier then the first. And did I mention it reeks of urine? For Japanese standard this place is poor. we ended up staying because we came there late and was exhausted from the day trip. I would not recommend this place. I would conclude that a hostel or love hotel would be better then this. Sunroute, you really need to raise your standard especially in Kyoto.
