Not inviting!
We were on College visit road trip, visiting Colgate. Looking at the hotel website it looked good and cheap. Now I know why! It is built in 1912 ( which can be charming) and still in renovation I guess ( we didn't hear anything) but filthy. Our room was on the 5th floor , had a box tv in it , arm chair had a big rip on the upholstery and the shower head was leaking all night. Plus on the ceiling there was some sort of door that was rusty. Continental breakfast to a bare minimum. Utensils and plates wasn't wash good and no one to wipe the tables that we saw . To top it off , they had a pitcher at the end of the table with tips please! Really? This hotel had no atmosphere whatsoever! Even spooky if I may add . It will become a Doubletree by Hilton. Hopefully it will change. We are not people that complaint and try to get our room for free but I should have said something when we left. Not going back for sure !

Excellent4.0 / 5
The hotel is under renovations so there was no dining room or lounge. It obviously was once a beautiful hotel and I am sure it will be again after the renovations. It was bought by Hilton Doubletree Suites. The room was very large and well appointed, clean and comfortable. The continental breakfast was just ok due to the aforesaid renovations of the dining room, but it certainly was enough.

Hotel Utice is a Gem!
What a great hotel! It is a beautiful establishment that could use some updates in the rooms, but the lobby is so gorgeous and elegant it should be left alone. I would definitely recommend the Hotel Utica for a stay, particularly given its location near some great restaurants and a bakery!

A really nice stay
I don't travel that much and when I do it's usually at the chain hotels, the best quality bargain I can find. I took a chance on this downtown vintage hotel in a place I'd never been to before. The hotel is a magnificent older building that is wisely being renovated instead of demolished, so while there there's a lot that's obviously a work in progress. Restaurant is still gutted, there's construction evident though we heard none the entire time. Our room was very pleasant, lots of windows, reasonably quiet A/C and the bathroom was spotless. Excellent breakfast included. Fitness room needs some new equipment but I don't often use one. The expected sounds of a city (sirens etc) were there and we heard them, usually every day. We live in the country with none of these sounds but oddly they weren't a problem and more of a curiosity that by the end of three days I was already used to. Walking distance to a fabulous museum, the Munson Williams Proctor Arts Institute, I want to go back when I have more time. The lobby architecture of this hotel is awesome and elegant. Staff very friendly and helpful. When this property is fully renovated it won't be a cheap stay, and shouldn't be. We were an easy 15-20 minute drive to Hamilton College. WiFi was acceptable, maybe a bit slow for streaming. Room was very clean. If you're traveling to the area this would be a nice stay. If you're traveling to this area soon it's an incredible value.

Not bad!!! But...
Hotel is located on center of the city. It's an old building but on the process of renovation. It will be a Hilton Doubletree property soon. Room has a big space. The only negative comment is regarding one of the ladies who work during the breakfast period. A very mean one and very disrespectful one. Didn't have the chance of get her name. Hopefully she change the attitude towards customers when Doubletree brand starts.
