Trip back in time !
Lovely lobby and such a classic Old Lady... But tragically this property is decaying and badly in need of complete refurbishment ! A trip back in time in every way, not a place if you are youthful and want to be in the "hot spot"... More a senior citizen's holiday destination, a trip back in time !

Repeat visit
Another great stay. Now a regular guest and staff make me feel just as welcome, remembering my preferred room and dietary needs. The chef has even made me a different dessert when there was nothing on the menu i could eat.

Beautiful traditional hotel
A beautiful traditional hotel with a magnificent staircase leading to the guest rooms. Reception area is small but staff were polite and efficient. The lounge area is spacious with plenty of comfy seating and a well-stocked reasonably priced bar with a good choice of hot and cold snacks. It is lively in the evening with entertainment and dancing but also very relaxing in the daytime when you can order afternoon tea and sit by the windows for a glimpse of the sea. We had booked a superior sea view room and were very pleased with the room as it was very spacious, comfortable and clean with a large bathroom. Breakfast buffet was fabulous with plenty of choices of hot and cold food. The hotel does have an indoor swimming pool on the lower floor but I can't comment on this as we didn't have time to use it but I do know that guests staying at the hotel are charged to use it. The hotel doesn't have its own car park but offers half price parking at one of the main car parks in Scarborough within about 4 minutes' walk. The location of the Royal is good as shops, restaurants and bars are "on the doorstep" (we particularly liked the lively Dickens' Bar next door). The South Bay seafront is accessible either by numerous steps or by a long winding ramp or, alternatively, a cliff tram operates during certain hours of the day.
