Exceptional10.0
Most Charming Hotel of My Whole Italian Trip
Tuscania took me by surprise—such a peaceful little city, its crooked mediaeval streets not crowded with traffic as in Tarquinia or Orvieto or Viterbo. A great part of my unexpected pleasure was provided by this lovely bed-and-breakfast, managed by a charming hostess and tucked in a tranquil corner of the walled town. Upon my arrival I had lunch on her terrace overlooking the basilicas of San Pietro and Santa Maria Maggiore, and later that evening her small clientele moved indoors to the elegant little dining room. Both meals were exquisitely prepared; I wish I had planned to stay longer so that I could eventually sample all the items on her short menu, all of them personally chosen by her, so she told me, from local ingredients. My room was small but very comfortable. Alas, I couldn’t get the WiFi to work anywhere on the premises (the single drawback to an otherwise excellent stay). In the morning, after a breakfast that also featured the patrona’s personal touch (her homemade biscuits were delicious), I was sent on my way with advice on things I must stop to see on my journey. A memorable stop that I hope to repeat one day when I have more time on my hands.
