The room was over priced for what we got. Couldn't walk around in room with suitcases in there. I was charged for a "superior " room, whatever that meant. Stayed @ a Travel Lodge chain hotel that was nicer & half the price.

Read the fine print. Don't get burned like we did
The room shown to us on Hotel.com wasn't even close to the room we got. It was literally just big enough for a double bed and a desk. Not even a desk chair! My mother and I stayed for a week and it was terrible. When I went down to tell the owner I thought there had been a mistake, she immediately called up her webpage and showed me the room. She said she had no control over what Hotel.com might have shown us and that they were only responsible for what was on their webpage. She claimed they send an email which includes the exact dimensions of the room. This was not true, and makes me believe this isn't the first time they had done this and so were ready for our complaints. I had waited my whole life for this trip to Scotland and my stay at The Salisbury ruined it for me. Buyer beware! Check and recheck every detail of your stay before you book, and make sure you're on the officially sanctioned Salisbury Hotel website before you do. Note the little details - like you're not allowed to bring food and beverages into the hotel (they want you to eat in the cafe located in their basement.) Other members of our group stayed at air bnbs and had beautiful accommodations centrally located to the Royal Mile at a fraction of what we paid. But I wanted to spend the extra money for a hotel so everything would be perfect. It was perfect... perfectly dreadful.

Neat and tidy
The hotel is very clean and tidy. Staff are excellent and helpful. Breakfast is good but the continental options are limited. Despite being a very good hotel it doesnt feel like a 4 star.

Needs a bit of decoration
The staff at the hotel are very friendly and we received very good service. The room itself was a bit of a let-down. We knew it would be small but the owners had taken a bit of the bedroom to incorporate the bathroom and this made it smaller. Needs a bit of tlc. The location is about 35-40 minutes walk from Princes Street/Royal Mile.

Superior double not so superior
The room we were allocated (superior double) was half below ground level, with the bedroom window looking directly at the car park and a path where staff can walk directly past the window. So you can't have a very relaxing stay unless you completely close the curtains, which obviously blocks out all the light. The bath had scratch marks and the shower handle fell off.
