Montovani, Bruges

This is a 2* hotel so it's important not to compare it with anything above that. Location is a positive as it is a 5-10 min walk to the centre and it is on a quiet side street. Breakfast is included in the rate and while basic it is adequate. It is an old building with creaking wooden floors and you can sometimes hear your neighbours. The furniture inside the room is well worn and basic. The bathroom appears to have been renovated and is the only modern aspect. There are no towel rails in the bathroom which are very much needed. The shower gel sachets are not enough for 3 occupants and these were not replenished on the second night thus we had to use tiny soap bars to shower. When we arrived, only one towel had been provided for 3 guests. Luckily, the receptionist handed me the rest, but these should already be in the room. There is no fridge, nor is there a kettle, or tea and coffee making facilities, but this is to be expected in a 2* hotel. The television set had been stuck to the stand with black tape. It could potentially fall on someone's head one day. I found lots of thick dust in places and didn't feel confident that the pillows, bed linen and covers had been cleaned from previous guests. The whole place had a musty feel and it resembled a backpackers, albeit this was a step up from it. Would I stay here again? Not unless it was the cheapest option I could find.

Comfortable small hotel. Down an alleyway. No signs of life when I first arrived around 9:30pm. I used the buzzer at the door and someone buzzed me in remotely. There was an envelope waiting for me at the desk with a key and instructions. A little further away from the city center than i realized. Walk would have been ok if not for the road construction that caused a detour my first night. Parked in the free roadside parking area about a half mile away my first night. Could not find a space the next afternoon and had to pay at the under ground lot a couple of blocks away. 8.70 euro for up to 24 hr. The only staff i met was Towland who was courteous and very helpful. I got the impression he was the only one there during the day and no one there at night. Room was old but clean. Bed was comfortable. Sink was on the opposite side of the bed from the bathroom. I would probably pay a bit more to get a more central hotel next time, but for what it is, it does it well.

Hotel location was good, no parking though but was recommended one five minutes away. Easy walk to town centre. Staff at reception gave us directions to everywhere we needed and highlighted on a map. He was very friendly and also did breakfast, more staff would have been useful to help with breakfast. Overall good place, little over priced but was middle of Bruges so should be expected

Overall wonderful, the location is perfect - just outside of historic Bruges, so no loud revelers, but not so far that you can't easily go out to be one. The only complaint I could muster is that the bed was a bit too hard for me
