The British Hotel is not as advertised!!!
We showed up and the front of the hotel was a construction site. We were directed by a construction worker around the corner and up 3/4 of a block of steps to the back door where they had fashioned a reception desk. Our room was purple and ugly and not at all worth what we paid. As part of the room price we were promised breakfast. This included instant coffee we had to make ourselves (including pouring the water in the coffee maker) and a pastry enclosed in a plastic wrap. It was horrible, but all in a days work for the hotel. Then the final insult was when we asked for a taxi to the Ferry (to Sicily). We needed to be there at 5:30 am. The taxi picked us up and then when the driver had taken us the 1.5 miles, he asked if our hotel had quoted the price. We said "no" so he called the hotel for guidance. The man at the front desk of the British Hotel told him to charge us 15 Euros. That is more than I have ever paid in any city around the globe for such a short trip!

Basic hotel in great location undergoing repairs
The hotel is undergoing major renovations, so they are using a temporary entrance and check in desk. There is no restaurant open on site and there are very basic communal tea & coffee making facilities. Air conditioning is not included in the price, but at this time of year we did not need it. Current entrance is halfway up a stepped street and there are no lifts in the building. Hence moving luggage around is not easy and nobody is available to help. The big plus of the hotel is its location in Valletta close to the main attractions and a 10 min walk from the main bus station.

The beds were hard as a rock. The TV was broken. The hotel was undergoing renovation, which they did not tell us. We were awakened early by workmen. There was no breakfast, as the restaurant was being renovated. It was not worth the money we paid by any means. The staff was very helpful and friendly and let us store our luggage while we saw the city.

It's a construction yard now.
The hotel is under construction at the moment. They give you a powder coffee and a pressed sandwich in a plastic back somewhere in a dark corner as compensation. And, they don't give you enough soap to wash yourself. So, overall impression is bad, it looks like a scam and they should tell you that in advance. Hotel condition: being renovated. Hotel service: they don't tell you that the hotel is under construction and the coffee and sandwich served are just laughing at your face. Room cleanliness: the rooms rented are not under construction and the rooms are fair Room comfort: the airco works well, beds are normal Neighborhood: Valletta is a jewel and the hotel is at the edge with a great view at the harbour. There is as well parking place available.

70s throwback (in a good way)
This hotel is family-run, and you can tell from the service-everyone was very attentive and helpful; I arrived a couple of hours before check-in time and I was invited to wait upstairs in the lounge, where I was brought a cup of tea and plate of biscuits free of charge. The view is fantastic, as it is situated right on the Valletta harbor. Don't go in expecting super modern chic; however, the rather dated look of the hotel is rather cool in a nostalgic sort of way. No lift past the second floor and you have to pay extra for air-conditioning. The decor in the rooms is best described as late 90s dorm room, but you can't complain when the views are so great, the staff is so friendly, and the location is so central yet quiet. My one major issue was the cleaning, as I found some stray hairs floating around (personal nightmare) after the maid had supposedly been into clean.
