Canal Ring Amsterdam
Great Location! Staff was wonderful. Small room but clean. No elevator which was not a problem for me but could be a problem for someone with a problem with stairs.

Fine for our purposes--
The help was wonderful--but a small hotel with small rooms and pricey--cest la vie--welcome to Amsterdam--and be prepared to walk up LOTS of steps Good location for tourism and served our purposes. Friendly and helpful staff

Great Value!
This hotel is in a fantastic location. Not sure why people rate it poorly given the value for the money. It has character, but it is not a luxury hotel. Dont stay in the heat of summer--no air conditioner. Slept with the windows open to cool the room, but it was nice because it was in the 50s at night. Hotel staff were excellent.

Wifi alert
Wifi did not work in the room. We did get it by going in the stairway and standing close to the router, but that's a pain. It took several attempts and dropped us several times too. If you want wifi in your room be aware it may not work. The man at the desk in the evening just said "The signal is weak, sorry." Surely, they could get a better router. Our room was the closest one to the router so I'm not sure how anyone else could get it if we didn't. Otherwise this was a typical European hotel. It had pretty good style. Cute enough. Clean enough. Functional, though small rooms. The lady at the desk during the day was cheerful and more helpful. That was nice.

Go with an open mind
Good location for price, an old building about 20 mins walk from train station. Reception will buzz you in from the street entrance. Stayed 2 nights. Access is by stairs only and they get steeper at higher floor levels. Not recommended for heavy luggage or people with mobility issues. Rooms were a little disappointing to begin with because they are older in style, but with more time we appreciated that they were clean, beds were comfortable and included the basic necessities needed for a place to stay. Ours were at back so no view of canal. Small CRT TV's with a couple of English language stations available. Saw new flat screen TV boxes in reception area so maybe they are updating. Can confirm liquid soap/shampoo is provided in bathroom dispensers. Mugs and water kettle in room but strangely no tea/coffee provided - which is a first for any hotel we've stayed at and it would be an easy fix to increase customer satisfaction. We took tea bags the following morning from the breakfast bar. Breakfast is a "help yourself" selection of meats, cheese, pastries, cereals etc. and was fine to start the day. Staff friendly but now only one dog left (see earlier reviews). Had to pay extra for WiFi in hotel which was irritating. WiFi is free in most cafes and bars. Hotel is 5-10 mins walk from plenty of bars, restaurants, shopping and most anything else you might expect to find in Amsterdam.
