Merlyn Court Hotel, London
Excellent location but very poor hotel.
Overall I wouldn't recommend the hotel for business or leisure. I've stayed at much better hostels. Pros: I would highly recommend the area. Tube station was very close and the area had plenty of stores/restaurants. Cons: The hotel only had wifi near the reception area (not in all communal areas). To use wifi I had to sit one of the chairs (no tables) near the reception hallway. The reception doesn't have a dedicated sitting area. The room was also very cold at night. The heater was centrally controlled and had to controller within the room. The heater wouldn't occasionally be turned on. On 3 of the nights I stayed the temperature outside was around 5 degrees and heater wasn't turned on. When I complained, I was told it is an automatic setting and not within the staff's control. The blankets weren't warm enough and as a result I kept waking up in the middle of the night.

Disappointed overall
The free breakfast consists of coffee or tea and toast with butter and marmalade. Nothing else period. If I had known this I would not have stayed here. Now others will know and act accordingly. It is 5-10 minutes to Earl's Court where there are many food options. There are also no tea or coffee facilities in the room like almost every other hotel, b&b, or rooming house. My advice is that one can do better for the money.

Great location, lovely landlady. Rooms are small and simple, but have everything you need.

Very Good8.0
Good budget hotel
This was my second time staying at Merlyn Court Hotel and it is a good value--convenient location, friendly staff, older property but it is clean. My only complaint is the room that I stayed in for my second visit was very warm/hot, making it hard to sleep. There had just been a heat wave just before I arrived in London and my room was on the top floor, but I could not open my window more than about 6 inches (for safety reasons). It was much cooler outside and in the hallway just outside my room, so I think a small fan or something would have been helpful. I would stay here again because everything else was good for the price (and the room from my first stay was great), but I would request a room on a lower floor if there is a chance of warm weather.

Very pleased with location near Earl's Court station, value for price. There is no elevator, so anybody unable to walk up several flights (potentially) should keep that in mind. Breakfast is spartan toast and tea, but there is small shared fridge. We did not spend much time in our room, but there was plenty of space for our 3 single beds, it was quiet, beds comfortable. Wifi only on ground floor, first floor landing. Would stay there again.
