Great room, great price
I was pleasantly surprised with my stay here. From the outside, it doesn´t look like much of anything. However, the room was spacious, quiet, and really nice! I paid 42 euros per night and got my own double bed and clean bathroom. The room also had a TV and wifi which is unusual for a 1-star hotel. I was very comfortable in this hotel and for an expensive city like Venice Hotel Marte y Basin is an excellent deal!! Would highly recommend for anyone traveling on a budget or a student like myself.

The hotel is locate by the canal and is close to many of the sites. We booked for a quad room, and when we checked in, was given an apartment which sounded very good. The apartment was on the ground floor in (or behind) the sister hotel called Hotel Biasin (which is opposite the Hotel Marte), which you can access via a bridge. Hotel Biason looked a bit run down, but I was assured by the staff that it had been refurbished inside, so agreed. The apartment itself was large, but suffered with damp, and flies - evident by the peeling plaster and smell of insect repellent. The staff were very good and exchanged the room after staying for one night. We got a quad room in Hotel Marte, and this was much better. The facilities are basic, fold up beds, and an en-suite. Both rooms we stayed in had air conditioning, en-suite and hair dryer which is good for a one star. Note, we didn't get free wifi in the hotel room as advertised, it was only available in the lobby, and only until 11am. Overall, the location of the hotel is excellent, and if you don't mind basic accommodation (but still expensive - after it is Venice), then you get a reasonable room, but I would insist on Hotel Marte, or at least check the room, if they give you Hotel Biasin.
